5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Plug n play. Worked instantly in Windows 7

I looked through all the cards and HAD to have one compatible with W7 & equipped with a Texas Intruments chip. Most external audio cards recommend their chipsets

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Using with Saffire Pro 24

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Presonus Firebox!

Pros: So I upgraded my audio studio pc mobo and proc only to find out that the onboard firewire as completely inoperational. This started a 2 month trek to find a card that would work with my presonus firebox and nforce mobo.

This card worked!

Apparently, nforce boards only work with pci-express firewire cards. Not pci, but only pci express.
and
Presonus firewire products will really only work with texas instruments firewire chipsets.

the card is very stable

Cons: needs a molex cable ... would be nice if it could operate of pci-e power alone.

Other Thoughts: this is a xio2213b ti chip. it is on the approved presonus firewire chipset list.
don't use via, ricoh or any other chip for firewire audio interfaces.

4 out of 5 eggsHis and pop while recording

Pros: Good Device. If you're getting pops or hum you're probably getting them from a wireless device nearby. Keyboard, Mouse, modem, router. It took me a while to find out after some equitment/device/software changes...it wasn't any of those...it was bleedover. Even a nearby electric fence can do it.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: None

5 out of 5 eggsFixed my disconnect problems

Pros: I built a Win7 PC two years ago to run my DAW that connected with my MOTU Traveler audio interface (Firewire). The original card I used was the Vantec UGT-UF100. Although that mostly worked, it had a consistent habit of losing the connection every few days. To get the connection back I'd have to reboot the system, power cycle the Traveler, or both.

After seeing many reports in specialty forums about the importance of using a TI chipset for Firewire work, I took a flyer and put this card in. It has been a little over a week now and there have been no problems. As with many other USB and 1394 port expansion cards, installation was automatic -- no work to do. After putting in the card, I connected the cable to the Traveler and haven't touched it since.

Reliability has been good -- no disconnections so far. Glad I did this -- well worth the 25 bux.

Cons: none

3 out of 5 eggsWorks, but unstable.

Pros: Cheap. Worked out of the box on my new Windows 7 DAW build, Gygabite GA-Z77M-D3H mobo, no drivers.

TI chip... wish it lived up.

Works with my Mac Journaled external hard drive using MacDrive and FW800.

Works with my Mbox Pro 3 with FW400. No hiss or hum issues mentioned in other reviews, sonic quality is unaffected.

Cons: Doesn't work as smoothly as I'd like. Doesn't seem to handle multiple devices well, especially when one is an audio interface handling high sample rates during recording session, during which I find myself having to come up with work arounds in order to prevent the dreaded "device under or overflowed" error, meaning either the clock source is invalid/unstable or the firewire bus is being bottlenecked.

When I have the external hard drive and Mbox both running through this thing simultaneously, it's impossible to use the external as a project drive because of said error messages popping up too frequently. The devices are battling each other for bandwidth. Also, read/write speeds on the drive are not nearly as fast as they are on my Macbook Pro FW800, and when my Mbox is turned on, the speeds drop even further.

It works better when streaming samples and using an internal HD as project drive, but not as well as I'd like, before clicks and pops start appearing. It's directly related to how high the sample rate is, which means the firewire bus clearly doesn't have enough bandwidth to be trusted to run my interface. Not processor or RAM bottlenecking. (i7 3770k / G Skill 16gb).

Also, sometimes the Mbox won't be recognized when turned on, or will be lost when the external HD is turned on after, and a reboot is required. Sometimes Pro Tools just doesn't see the Mbox at all, and a reboot is again required.

Other Thoughts: So, it works, but it has caused enough trouble for me to look into other cards. I've heard great things about the SIIG FW400 2-port for DAW use, which I will report back about when I get it up and running. I will simply access my external HD via eSATA (Glyph 1TB), and keep the card dedicated for the Mbox, until I upgrade interfaces.

Coming from the Mac world, I'm loving my new PC, but it's clear that Firewire and PC do NOT get along.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

From the description in your feedback your application requires more controller cards. We would recommend you to use two separate USB 3.0 cards. This will help with the performance.

Each PCI-e is capable of limited bendwidth. If both USB 3.0 ports are being used at same time each port will only receive half the bendwidth.

2 out of 5 eggsDisables IOMMU Support System Wide

Pros: It works (I guess)

Cons: When plugged into a PCIe slot on my Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard, the system is no longer recognized as having IOMMU support by the OS, regardless of BIOS settings.

I need IOMMU on this build, and as such, this card is useless to me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

By installing this card, IOMMU should not be disabled. What happened is not usual, please contact SYBA technical support team for futher help.
