4 out of 5 eggsMore true USB 3.0 Ports

Pros: 4 USB 3.0 ports with true 3.0 transfer speeds (125 MB/sec). After downloading & installing the most up to date drivers for this card from SYMBA, this card has continued to perform with almost no glitches. I'm using this card to connect four external 3TB Western Digital USB Drives to a Windows 8.1 computer. Now this card has passed my review, I will now recommend and buy more of these cards.

Cons: Occasionally when the computer restarts, either full power restart or wakening the computer from suspend mode not all of the drives connected to the card are recognized. Easy fix though... just disconnect power from drives not recognized, then reconnect power to drive. Drives then are recognized

Other Thoughts: Can SYMBA add another USB 3.0 port to this card that faces into the computer case?

1 out of 5 eggs3TB Drive Support

Pros: small, compact supports 4 USB devices & external drives up to 2 TB in size.

Cons: I have four USB 3.0 --- 3TB WD MY Books formatted NTFS in GPT & useing these drives with a Windows 8.1 Operating System. This USB card allows for all four drives to be seen and read. But... when reading or writing from 2 or more of the drives at a time that are connected to this USB 3.0 the entire card crashes. and YES the power cable is connected to the card from a 1000 watt power supply. Using four --- 2TB drives WD MY Books formatted NTFS have no problems at all using this USB Card

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well for the most part

Pros: Went into a PCIe slot in a Dell Poweredge SC440 box and Win Server 2008 R2 worked with it just fine with Win 7 driver software. File copying shows around 85 MB per second throughput to attached disks.

Cons: This server is always running and sits on a shelf running file sharing service and has no keyboard or mouse or display, login is strictly via RDP. If no user is logged on, the disks attached seem to disappear off the box and are inaccessible to file sharing. Logging in and opening Computer brings them slowly back online. If I just disconnect the RDP session and leave a user logged on, they stay connected. Unsure if it's a card/driver or Win Server issue. Luckily the workaround is simple enough.

Other Thoughts: My favorite non newegg vendor was selling off empty USB 3.0 disk enclosures for $1 each so I got myself a stack of 'em. I had four WD green 750 gig disks functioning as paperweights for lack of somewhere to put 'em, so I stuck 'em in four of the enclosures. Then I needed something USB 3.0 to connect 'em to so I went looking for a four port card and thought this one would do. Aside from the above problem, the setup is working great.

1 out of 5 eggsBSOD

Pros: none

Cons: I tried installing this card in a Dell PowerEdge 1800 server running Win Server 2008 R2 x64. The drivers for this product caused the system to BSOD. I removed this card and installed a different manufacturers add-on card successfully.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card, Picky Drivers

Pros: Small profile--perfect fit next to, and short of, my graphics card fan = no heat and/or airflow issues
Price--especially with recent 30% discount promo code
4 extra USB 3.0 ports
Remember to plug-in your 4-pin molex power cable before turning on the computer
Glad to have worked out driver issues so the card doesn't have to be returned--really like these Syba expansion cards
VIA-Labs USB 3.0 drivers do not conflict with Etron USB 3.0 drivers on my Gigabyte mobo

Cons: These drivers more picky to install than the SD-PEX20080 4-port unit. Try another version than what is included on the mini-CD (see my success story below).

Other Thoughts: Driver ver 1.80A wouldn't recognize hardware. Ver 1.90A installed OK but is older (early 2012). Tested drivers from VIA-Labs website model VL800/801 ver 4.00B and they immediately installed/updated ver 1.90A drivers to March 19, 2013. Anyway, that is what worked on my system and all ports are zipping along:
Mobo Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
CPU AMD FX-6300
DDR3 RAM 16Gigs PC1600
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

1 out of 5 eggsWish it worked

Pros: It has 4 ports that supposedly supports USB 3.0 and all the speedy goodness that entails.....

Cons: It doesn't recognize anything I plug into it. I'm running Windows 8 64 bit on my 3.5 year old desktop, a quad core with 4 gigs ram. I read the reviews on here, and some people with win8 say it works fine for them, more people with Win8 say it doesn't work for them. The mfg support rep comes on here and offers plenty of suggestions, but we never find out if any of them help or not.

I saw here where one rep says don't let your system install the drivers, do it manually from the disk or download.

Another comment the rep says for Win8, let Windows install the drivers and it will work.

My emails back and forth after buying the card, they told me to use the downloaded drivers, and install the Win7/64 drivers, will work. Sorry, no go with either MS or the VIA drivers.

It's in a PCIe 2.0 slot, tried the OTHER PCIe slot, messed with settings in bios, it has a molex power plug inserted correctly, little green light on the board comes on. The 3 VIA drivers show in device manager. Yet nothing I plug into the card will work. I have tried flash drives, wireless mouse/keyboard transceiver, usb hard drives, nothing on any of them.

Support has given up and says I have a defective card, and should return for replacement to them or to Newegg. I got the card for only $13, I gotta spend another $3 or $4 to ship it to get a replacement that will probably do the same?? I dunno if I want to do that, but if I don't, I toss the card and lose my $13 anyway. What a quandary

I think I saw on their site a card that was the same except a different controller, not VIA. Might try to swap for that, not sure..... just pretty disappointed at this time.....

So warning to Win8 users, it may work, it may not...... depends how much of a gambler you are if you decide to purchase this item or not....

Other Thoughts: Really want it to work, my system is stuck with usb 2.0 ports that seem to kill flash drives, so I thought I'd upgrade to newer and faster ports, but no love....... me sad........

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Fine

Pros: Six weeks of occasional use and I'm very happy with this card. The test result numbers don't really tell the story, in everyday use the speed increase over 2.0 is impressive. Those with problems, are you connecting a 4-pin Molex power plug? Power to the card is not optional, it's necessary.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Absolute number are meaningless because machine speeds vary. Here are my relative test results running everything on the same machine. The 2.0 port used was a rear motherboard port, the 3.0 port is this Syba add-on card. The test program was H2testw v1.4, tests were run more than once.

A 3.0 flash drive plugged into this card's 3.0 port:
Write speed: 16.8 MByte/s
Read speed: 74.0 MByte/s

The same 3.0 flash drive plugged into a 2.0 port:
Write speed: 12.8 MByte/s
Read speed: 31.3 MByte/s

And interestingly, showing that USB flash drive speeds do vary a lot:

A 2.0 flash drive plugged into the same 2.0 port:
Write speed: 3.45 MByte/s
Read speed: 15.6 MByte/s

REMEMBER: Don't just unplug an NFTS-formatted drive because data loss and damage to the drive are possible. Use the tray (where the clock is) icon to shut down the drive before you unplug.

5 out of 5 eggsSuccess!

Pros: Adds 4 USB 3.0 Super Speed Ports to my PC that only had USB 2.0. Fit well. Installed easily.

Cons: Installation instructions are a bit brief, but accurate and usable. Instructions should specify that one must have a USB 3.0 device and a USB 3.0 cable in order to use SuperSpeed. Otherwise, the port will default back to USB 2.0 transfer speed, as required by the USB 3.0 spec.

Other Thoughts: After a disastrous attempt to install an NEC/Renesas card and drivers, I ordered this card.

This card installs easily, and the supplied drivers installed perfectly on the first attempt. The supplied CD has drivers for a lot of very different cards. The instructions specify exactly which driver to install, so pay attention!

The drivers worked for my Lenovo i5 tower with Win 8 64-
bit.

While the machine will read from my Seagate backup+ at about 27 MB/sec using a USB 2.0 cable, it will transfer at 50-90 MB/sec using a USB 3.0 cable into this new card. This demonstrates that the card is backward compatible to USB 2.0 devices, and how much speed enhancement is available via USB 3.0.

Note that a USB 3.0 cable is required to utilize the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed mode, since these cables provide 5 extra conductors to enable the higher speed.
