4 out of 5 eggsFine product

Pros: Works fine

Cons: The mini-disk with the drivers is worthless. It lacks a setup.exe or autorun and Windows couldn't find the drivers on it. Fortunately, Windows found the proper drivers on-line.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: What can I say, this card was easy to install and worked flawlessly! I used Windows 7 64bit. I installed the card booted and after boot did a search for new driver from device manager. Windows found and installed the correct drivers for it.
I bought it to use with Amiga Explorer. I had tried other serial solutions and none worked. I was amazed how fast and simple it was to use this card.

Cons: None, well it's sad to use a pcie slot just for a serial port. Wouldn't it be great to get a card with many different ports on one card, like serial, parallel, usb 3.0, ide, sata, floppy.......get the picture?

Other Thoughts: Good product at a good price, should work with mac also

4 out of 5 eggsWorks in my PC

Pros: Bought to use in Windows 7 - HP Z400.
Works fine.
Replaced older PCI card that would not work in Windows 7.

Cons: Instructions say to install software first than card. But I could not get that to work. So Installed card than software.
Worked that way.

5 out of 5 eggsEverything works! However must be tech literate!

Pros: This product is solid, MosChip really is a great chipset!

This product DOES support Windows 8!
However, you do need to disable digital signature check as well as use the Windows 7 drivers.
After that, everything becomes a walk in the park for those with experience with RS-232.

Cons: Recommended to install drivers Manually!!!!

This product DOES support Windows 8... I don't know why users give up so easily...

Other Thoughts: If you need help, contact their support team immediately! They will help you asap and the the support is really polite to answering ALL my questions.

1 out of 5 eggsWindows 8 users beware!

Pros: None that I can fathom

Cons: Everything. This thing totally borked up about 4 hours of install work when I installed it into a new Windows 8 system after loading the supplied 64-bit drivers (NOT WHQL signed) for Windows 7. After installing the software and shutting it down, I installed the hardware and booted to a BSOD.

It crashed Windows so hard it sent it back to a restore point from 2 days ago.

Other Thoughts: I see the manufacturer trying to do damage control, but the fact is, if somebody buys this card, it is intended for a newer system that did not have a serial port. The drivers on the disc are from 2010, 3 years old! If you can't supply working drivers for the two most recent versions of Windows, don't bother putting the disc in the box!

I found much more recent drivers for the chip-set on another manufacturer's site, but I have not bothered to try them yet since I am currently spending my time redoing all the work installing this card undid.

1 out of 5 eggsCannot make it work under Linux 3.0.0.

Pros: None, since after several hours I still can't make it work.

Cons: The advertising claims that "Linux Kernel 2.6.11 and Above" is officially supported. I am using 3.0.0.

I expected that one would simply insert the card and everything would be ready to go, since the kernel itself supports all the standard serial chipsets.

But no: the soi-disant "User Manual" refers one to a directory on the CD and says that there's a driver there. No, there are actually two subdirectories, each of swhich contains instructions for building drivers, but with no explanation as to which one one should use. And, completely unmentioned in the manual, it turns out that there's another directory on the CD containing a script that's supposed to build the drivers. It (almost) goes without saying that the script errors out when executed.

What instructions there are are in mangled English and are basically incomprehensible and incomplete.

For $20, it's not worth returning the item, but if you're looking for a serial port board for a Linux system, I strongly suggest you look elsewhere.

All I wanted was to add a serial port... instead I wasted several hours trying to make sense of their mangled English; at no point did I ever succeed in getting the system to see the ports.

FWIW, the at boot-time kernel sees the board, but then says:
[ 0.236267] Serial: 8250/16550 driver, 32 ports, IRQ sharing enabled
[ 0.237567] serial 0000:02:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
[ 0.237576] serial 0000:02:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
[ 0.237595] serial 0000:02:00.1: PCI INT B -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19
[ 0.237602] serial 0000:02:00.1: PCI INT B disabled

The packaging with the board identifies its chipset as compatible with the 16550, which is the driver that the kernel attempts to use.

All in all, very frustrating.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

What Distrobution are you using? Try using wine to compile one of these drivers in .exe format.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Quick easy install, recognized immediately on win7 machine.

Cons: Instructions sparse

Other Thoughts: Instructions indicate to install drivers prior to installing hdwr, Should be a bright sheet or sticker on card envelope for those of us that don't read them. ;)
