4 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine For A Red Hat Linux System

Pros: The latest version of Red Hat Linux recognized the card without any issues or additional drivers.

Cons: This is a full-sized card. My mini-ITX motherboard takes a half-sized card. The card size should have been mentioned in description. I was able to plug in the card at an odd angle to test out the functionality. I'm planning to buy a riser cable to overcome this particular issue.

Other Thoughts: I ordered a 6" Molex-to-FDD cable. The FDD connector for my power supply is on a thick, stiff cable that's difficult to move around in tight quarters and may break off the connector on the card. The Molex-to-FDD cable worked well for my situation.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's a small pcie card

Pros: Size... it's small so you can fit it in smaller cases and some laptops.

Cons: It you're going to use this in a desktop pc, you may need some additional parts like a good mounting bracket. You may want to consider a USB 3.0 bracket like the KINGWIN KW-PCI2USB3 or some other type.

Other Thoughts: If size is a factor, this product may do the trick.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat in theory, but problematic

Pros: Provides much needed USB3 on older motherboards and laptops that didn't ship with USB3 ports out of the box. Newer OSes don't need a driver; newer BIOSes even see the card out of the box.

Cons: For lack of a <$1 steel bracket, I had to spend an additional $10 getting a USB3 bracket (the KINGWIN KW-PCI2USB3, if you're wondering) just to render it usable. The ports are too small to fit into a 9-pin serial or 15-pin VGA header. Out of curiosity, I checked the front headers on six different cases, and it didn't fit a single one. So I'm not sure what this was designed for.

The orientation of the power socket is terrible. On mini-ITX boards, this either blocks a port, or is up against something extremely tightly, like RAM or the heatsink. Simply having the power port pointing up would have solved that problem. Really unfortunate.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear that the device was not up to your expectations.

The lack of a bracket allows the USB ports flexibility in positiong for other devices.

The power socket was placed in an ideal location for installation into laptop systems.

Please note that this card was designed for laptops which lacked USB 3.0 support. Unlike most desktop systems which come equipped with USB 3.0 capabilities.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked great

Pros: Worked great.
Very useful.
Price was right

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Put this in a mini-itx board that had mini pci express slot.
Shows up as a Renesas chipset under Windows.

5 out of 5 eggsPut into a Laptop...but..

Pros: Does what is supposed to do. My WD Passport 1TB drive benchmarked at around 58-60 Mb/s.

Cons: Documentation is sparse, but everything worked. Connectors prohibit easy mounting into a laptop. But it is possible with much work. Would have been nice is they offered a version that had more compact connectors for laptop use.

Other Thoughts: I put this into Lenovo T61 Laptop. It was a success but it was not easy. I had to remove the connection headers and solder directly to the board. I then gutted the cable and mounted the USB connector on the front of the T61, just in front of the ram. I stole USB +5V from one of existing USB 2.0 connectors with a green wire.
