2 out of 5 eggsUSB fail; SATA OK

Pros: SATA works. Mostly.

Was cheap enough that failure of USB3 ports makes RMA stupid... wait... maybe that isnt a pro. It half works, so you get less than half credit. Two eggs is being generous.

Cons: USB fail. Spent a dozen hours messing around... contacted the manuf'r, got the "maybe you didnt install it right" and "make sure the drivers are the most recent" ... and updated every other driver on my aging ASRock 870 Extreme 3 mobo.

Actually they did briefly work when first installed... and yes, the ports have power. Still a fail. Return shipping would be like $11, minus restocking fees... leaves me with like $11 refund for something that should never have been released.

Other Thoughts: Installed in free PCIe2x16 slot in mobo... powered via molex->floppy adapter...

Funny- when a device is hot-plugged in to the SATA port, my antivirus (AVG) says its a removable drive... and scans it... and Seatools lists the drive TWICE- at the beginning and the end of the list (of internal drives). Like there's two drives even though there's one attached to the card. And Windows "properties" lists the device as ATA, not SATA (but speed is like SATA- an older WD black laptop drive did well over 150M/s). Makes me think maybe the drivers for the USB and SATA are interacting somehow.

1 out of 5 eggsSyba Combo

Pros: The Sata ports work

Cons: The USB ports are a complete failue, I had one card and it didn't work. Hoping it was defective card I RMA'd back to Newegg, they sent a new card and had the exact same problem. No USB.

Other Thoughts: Don't botherwiththis card.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear about the issues you have been having with this card.

Please remember that for the USB ports to work the card must be connected to the power supply via the 4-pin Molex connection.

Also check that the decond set of drivers for the USB ports has been installed.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Overall / Ignore the bad reviews due to user incompetence

Pros: I can't vouch for Windows support on this product, but I can tell you that in Xpenology or Vmware ESXI it works great and is natively supported.

Getting the max read / write speeds posted using a 4x slot on my motherboard.

Also getting the posted / advertised speeds for USB 3.0 file transfer rates.

Cons: card requires a 4 pin adapter for power.
Card does not include this adapter or adapter to molex
Had to spend another few dollars for a SATA to Molex Y adapter to power this card correctly.

Card will not run / operate correctly if you do NOT power the card (seems obvious but people seem to ignore this fact)

Other Thoughts: As stated previously it is natively supported in Linux / VM Ware ESXi.

I'm running this card in an HP N54L that is powered by the Xpenology project. I'm able to utilize the 5 internal SATA / SAS + ESATA ports, plus this card. THis gives me a total of 6 plus 2x usb 3.0 for external hard drive backups.

Again, solid card. I've been running it for 5+ months with no issues. Just make sure you POWER the card correctly with floppy / molex adapter.

2 out of 5 eggsAnother defective card

Pros: It's the only card I can find with both sata III and USB 3 ports.

Cons: I bought a second one of these for an HP Microserver N54L. The first one had a defective sata port. The computer would hang at boot if I connected a drive to it. The other sata port worked ok with the same cable and drive. So, this means that I have now received 2 defective cards out of the four that I have received from the Egg. The other defective card was DOA.

Other Thoughts: I hope another manufacturer enters this space so that I can dump Syba.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps the device was not installed onto the system properly.

Try installing the drivers for the device manually.

Also remember to connect the device to the PSU via 4-pin power connector.

Note that if you are trying to boot to a drive connected to this card a reinstall of the OS is necessary.

2 out of 5 eggsIt's an expensive gamble

Pros: Sata III works as described, fast and smooth.
I tried it under Windows 8.1 and Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.1

Cons: USB 3.0 does NOT work as advertised - It runs at 2.0 USB speeds
I tried it under Windows 8.1 and Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.1

Other Thoughts: Contacted customer service a week ago - still no response.
This card needs updated drivers for both Mavericks and Windows 8.1
and or a firmware update to get the faster USB 3.0 speeds.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps the updated drivers for the device were not installed.

Please visit our wensite to download the latest drivers for this device.

Also remember to connect this device to the PSU via 4-pin connector to ensure the USB3.0 ports run at optimal speeds.

2 out of 5 eggsDecent alternative

Pros: It does what it said it would do. Seems to have corrected the issues the Asus U3S6 had.

Cons: No raid support. No power cord supplied. Make sure you check to see if you have one available. I found a molex to floppy in the neighbor's trash.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

This card was designed to add multiple ports to a system as a standard controller card.

We offer many other cards that provide RAID support in either Hardware or Software forms.

This card is not listed to be bundled with a power cord. Please check the specifications on our website to determine what additional itmes may be needed when purchasing a device.

1 out of 5 eggsDissappointing

Pros: Unknown, our PC doesn't have a x4 slot

Cons: Unknown, our PC doesn't have a x4 slot

Other Thoughts: I purchased this for my husband for Christmas but I bought the wrong one, and was not allowed to trade it in for the right one because my husband didn't open it before the 30 day return policy ended,

2 out of 5 eggsNo improvement over x1 controller cards

Pros: Combines "SATA3" and USB3 into 1 PCIE slot.

Cons: Card uses x4 format, but in reality the chips use total of x2, that is x1 for SATA3 and x1 for USB3. There is no bandwidth improvement over any other x1 SATA3 controller card. A x4 format card that only supports x1 bandwidth for SATA, or "SATA2.5" speed.

Other Thoughts: Tested SATA3 performace with Samsung 840 Pro 256GB, with Samsung Magician and CrystalDiskMark. Read is around 400MB/s and write is around 360MB/s. Card is seated in a PCIE 2.0 x16 slot.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps the device was not supplied with enough power.

Please ensure that the device is connected to the PSU for optimal results.

4 out of 5 eggsPricey but it does its job fine

Pros: Don't listen the tech support guys telling you that card won't run in PCIe v1.0 slot. That's not true because this card is x4 NOT x1. As long as you put this card into a PCIe v1.0 or later in an x4, x8, or x16 it will should provide you the 6Gpbs you're looking for. Remember that a single lane transfers 250MBs or 2Gbps, putting this into an x4 will provide a supported speed up to 8Gbps but the card maxs out at 6Gpbs so it's perfectly fine.

Cons: Runs a little slow. My Samsung EVO 840 benchmarks with the Magican at 401MB/s read and 350MB/s write. If I turn on Rapid mode, I get 800MB/s and 700MB/s write but if you don't have a Samsung EVO 840 drive then you won't get these numbers. Rapid mode is Samsung proprietary. The SATA 3 controller built into my HTPC AMD mobo benchmarked at 500MB/s both ways so it's definitely this controller that's running slow. I've tried running this card in PCIe v1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 didn't make a bit of a difference. I'd blame this on the cheaply ASMedia 106x chipset. They could've went out a get the more superior Marvell chip but noooo they gotta pick the worst junk on the planet and charge us $34 ....for a few more bucks you could've bough a whole new mobo with all the goodies and whistles.

Other Thoughts: Tech support is pretty technically incompetent but they're nice people and won't hesitate to issue an RMA.

2 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: When I got one that was not defective, the card added SATA III and USB 3.0 ports to an older, but still very functional, I7 motherboard. Was able to boot Win 7 Ult SSD from this controller.

Cons: The first one of these that I received was DOA. The card was not recognized by the BIOS on 2 different computers, Intel/AMD.
I am unable to boot from USB drives connected to this controller. I don't know if this is a limitation of the card or the BIOS.
Syba needs to provide more info as to what this card is capable of doing, i.e. booting

Other Thoughts: I spent way too much time trying to troubleshoot this, before returning it. I hate it when I have to waste time because the manufacturer can not be bothered to supply a quality product. Also, if Syba had provided a screen shot of their boot/BIOS screen, in their scant documentation, it would have made it much easier to decide that the card was DOA.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Please note that when booting to a device that is connected to this card a reinstall of the OS is

necessary.

During the OS install you will need to install the device drivers.

Once the install is complete you should not be able to boot to the device connected to this

drive.
