5 out of 5 eggsUsed for sdd boot drive

Pros: I have this in a server. It is used for the boot ssd. I use it with Ubuntu. No issues setting it up. Been using it for over 2 years in a 24/7 server

Cons: I didn't have luck getting the USB 3.0 to work, but that might be a driver issue with Ubuntu.

Other Thoughts: I really don't have need for the USB 3.0 side of it, I got it mainly for the sata connections since I only needed 2 & it was cheap at time of purchase. I don't do anything heavy on the ssd, so I cant comment on the speed.

1 out of 5 eggsTo say its disappointing is too kind.

Pros: SATA II and USB 3.0 together on 1 Card.

Cons: Had the card for over a year hoping that new drivers or firmware would be released that would bring the card to life. Unfortunately, I wasted many hours working with this card and I still have nothing to show for the effort. It's disappointing since I needed the SATA III and USB 3.0 combo on my Supermicro X7DAL-E+ (a great MoBo btw) but have limited PCIe slots. I have never been able to get this card to work as bootable.

- Tried numerous versions of firmware and drivers for the ASMedia asm-1061.
- Tried clean installs (Windows 7 64-bit) as directed by manufacturer.
- Ensured supplemental power was connected.
- Tried the card with a Samsung EVO 500GB SATA III SSD.
- Tried the card with four different SATA hard drives (1 x Western Digital Black, 1 x Seagate Barracuda and 2x Maxtors).
- Motherboard has the latest version of firmware.
- The motherboard sees the card in POST and the attached drive. Loaded the drivers during the install but Windows never sees the hard drive and presents it for use. I have successfully used the internal SATA II, an IOCREST SI-PEX40057 as well as a HP SmartArray P400 add-in controller card so it’s doubtful that it would be a motherboard issue.

Nothing seems to work. A card shouldn't be this difficult to get operational. I recommend putting the money toward something else.

Other Thoughts: I purchased a IOCREST SI-PEX40057 4 port SATA III card with the Marvell 9230. No USB ports, but the card works well with my motherboard and for the money I spent on it I am very pleased.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize for the issues you've experienced with this controller card.

We really appreciate all the information you included in your review. Normally, we'd recommend you verify AHCI is enabled in your motherboard BIOS, since it's necessary for the SY-PEX50055 to function properly, but if your IOCREST SI-PEX40057 is working, we can assume that it's enabled. It should not be difficult to get this Syba controller card working so it's possible there's an issue with the unit you received. We invite you to contact our support team for troubleshooting help and warranty information.

Thank you for purchasing one of our products, and for leaving us your valuable feedback.

1 out of 5 eggsA dud

Pros: USB 3 and Sata all in one is cool option

Cons: Been trying for 2 years to get this to work. Pulled it off the shelf the other day for another attempt. Finally dawned on me, IT DOESN'T WORK. None of it.

Other Thoughts: Try manufacturing cardboard boxes Syba. Computer electronics inst your game

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice upgrade to Sata 2 Mobo

Pros: Plugged this card into my Pcie x16 2.0 port and hooked up a Patriot Blast 120gb SSD. It is definitely faster on the card than on my sata 2 mobo. For what it's worth, I tested with ATTO benchmark software. On the Sata 3 card I got 403000 read and 325 write. On the Sata 2 I got 280000 read and 250000 write. Not a real world test, but it does show that the card works. Not true sata 3 speeds on every mobo, but gives me a definite improvement.

Cons: Pretty easy setup. As others suggested, I got the USB 3.0 drivers from Etron Tech. Best drivers should be bundled or on SYBA's website. I can't see any reasons to knock off a star, though.

Other Thoughts: This card is a nice upgrade if you want USB 3.0 or Sata 3 without buying a new mobo, memory and chip. 29.99 instead of 200 or so, and it should hold me over for another year.

Make sure you PLUG THIS CARD IN! You should have a 4 pin connector on your power supply. The plug in on the card is to the left of the sata connections. If it's on the right, flip it over. :)

Someone else mentioned cable speeds, but don't worry about that. unless your older cables are damaged, not properly seated or so on, they be just as fast as new "6.0 gb" cable.

Finally, if you plug this in to a PCIE 1.0 instead of 2.0, you are going to get slower speeds. Figure out exactly what you have and where you can plug this in before you buy.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth a dime

Pros: Inexpensive. Somewhat faster than SATA II speeds on sequential read & write, but not near SATA III speeds.

Cons: Random write speed 32% SLOWER than native SATA II speed.

Other Thoughts: Advertised as being bootable. I could not get system to boot from drive attached to card or load an OS on a drive attached to card. From what I can tell, it looks like the bootable drive has to be GPT format which requires a UEFI motherboard. Mine was not UEFI. If I had a UEFI MB, it probably already had SATA III support and I wouldn't need the card.

One SATA port was dead. Never tried USB. Decided to RMA and not waste anymore time on this card.

Performance was poor. Tested it with a Samsung 850 EVO. Performance was about 35% improved over native SATA II performance for sequential reads & writes but nowhere near the native SATA III speeds I get with this drive on a SATA III MB. Random reads were 11% faster than SATA II speeds. Random writes were 32% SLOWER THAN SATA II on the same machine.

Since most disk use is random reads and writes, this card was less than useless for me even if it both SATA ports worked and I could boot from it.

2 out of 5 eggspower cable?

Pros: price

Cons: no power cable so USB ports functional

Other Thoughts: On the box it says it came with optional power cable and optional LED extension cable. It came with neither. When I installed it and connected a SSD drive to one of the SATA ports on it I could not see the drive, so I hooked it up to a SATA II connection on the motherboard.

My intent was for this board to give me SATA III speeds to the SSD I just bought. If I can find a power cable I may give it another try, but with 3 HDD drives already in my Dell XPS I don't have any to spare anyway. I'm still puzzled as to where the power cord would plug in on this board - anyone?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize for your confusion with the components of this controller card.

No LED or power cable is included with this device. This is listed in both the Packaging Contents section on Newegg and our website.

1 out of 5 eggsfollow up on junk

Pros: none for me

Cons: I have already posted a negative review of this card, the manufacturer responded, but not helpful since I did not miss anything on install, and tried several times to do a full clean install of windows 7 and the card was slow and failed to boot on multiple occasions when used to boot from. I have always connected the 4 pin floppy type power connector, usb3 is painfully slow or refuses to see my usb drives, for me this card has been a major disappointment, even though it was cheap, I'd take a refund if you really back your product, and I have tried the new eltron drivers as others have suggested, did not fix my issues, glad to hear others have had success, just not me :(

Other Thoughts: none

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk

Pros: was cheap, because it is junk

Cons: I have tried on multiple occasions to leave this card in my system so I can gave usb 3.0, but this card is intermittent at best, I have issues moving files to nay drive attached, and if I use the internal hard drive connections it will fail to boot. I am running the latest drivers, yet it will not function properly. When removed from my system, it works flawlessly, when installed my hard drives are very slow or do not appear at all, and they are not even connected internally, so this card conflicts with all other hardware

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize for your dissatisfaction with the quality of this controller card.

Please note that you will need to connect the floppy power connector on this card to the power supply for the USB ports to operate properly with all attached drives.

Note that after connecting a hard drive to this card you will need to set the boot priority queue back the the boot drive which is connected to the motherboard.

If you are going to boot through this card a reinstall/repair of the OS is necessary.

Our tech support team is more than happy to provide installation instructions for novice users.

Thank you for purchasing one of our products, and for leaving us your valuable feedback.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I like that it's low profile and doesn't take up space in my computer case. It's also nice to add an external usb 3 port. Great for keeping up with hard drive speeds on an aging motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsWatch X1 PCI & X2 PCI Difference

Pros: Great if it fits

Cons: This an X2 PCI card.

The pictures and the text for various cards on NEWEGG are not consistent in the way the card is described. and shown. A "flat on"
camera shot would be helpful.
