The SYBA SI-PEX40089 is the most cost-effective way to add two internal SATA 6Gbps ports to your PC system. It only takes one PCI-Express interface. Whether your PC chassis is big or small, it is a good choice for you because it includes a low profile bracket.

overall look
Raid Support

It supports SATA hard disk drives up to 4TB, and even ATA/ATAPI-7 specification. With an embedded hardware RAID engine, you can also configure RAID 0, 1 or SPAN setup to meet your needs for optimized performance and data protection. Switch between the three RAID modes via the setting by two GPIOs or GUI utility.

Raid Support
Native Command Queue (NCQ)

It offers support for Native Command Queue (NCQ). When multiple read and write commands are sent to the SATA drive, NCQ steps in to optimize the completion of these commands by grouping the commands in order of processing efficiency, thereby reducing the mechanical workload and increase performance from the drive.

Native Command Queue (NCQ)
More Features

To give you a bonus value, it supports port multiplier with command based switching to allow you add even more hard drives to your system (Port Multiplier required) for great drive expansion. It also supports S.M.A.R.T feature which enables the PC to predict the future failure of hard disk drives. Through the SMART system, hard disk drives incorporate a suite of advanced diagnostics that monitor the internal operations of a drive and provide an early warning for many types of potential problems. When a potential problem is detected, the hard drive can be repaired or replaced before any data is lost or damaged. It also supports automatic rebuild.

3 out of 5 eggsSorta worked

Pros: Was easy to set up raid or other configurations by hitting ctrl. r at boot.

Cons: Wacky driver install disk with everything in the world on it for all kinds of thangs, except this card .
In win 7 64 it would boot once or twice and then insist on being boot drive and then insist it only works UEFI win 8 or 10.
Crashasaurus irrecoveralus collossus.
No proper driver anywhere on world wide web for 7.
wonder why they on sale?

Other Thoughts: Just another reason I hate having wing 10 shoved at my pci slot

might work in 8 or 10

4 out of 5 eggsIt works without any problems so far.

Pros: Add two more sata drives to my computer. Got it for $9 less with promo code. I am lucky that my computer did not have any problems with it. It works fine with Win10 and the Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard.

Cons: I notice that the data transfer rate drops when moving multiple file simultaneously from one drive to another. The card is actually smaller than it looks in the picture.

1 out of 5 eggsPick another card

Pros: •More free time with the family-- inserting this card brought my freeNAS project to a halt
•I know what not to buy next time

Cons: •I will never get my money back
•Earth's landfill will receive another ROHS compliant board

Other Thoughts: When inserted it would freeze on this boards "Hit Ctrl-R..." RAID menu boot option 4 times out of 5 attempts when disk were SATA attached. Remove the disk it worked better, what would be the point? Attached those same disk direct to the mobo, perfect boot. Look, if this thing acts flaky on boot why would I ever trust my NAS data to flow through it? Eighteen bones down the drain.

1 out of 5 eggsIsn't recognized

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Doesn't work with an Intel Core i5 motherboard. Not recognized, supplied drivers fail to install, documentation is horrible, SYBA website is of no help. I would not recommend this card to everyone. Fortunately I am only out $20 and not more.

1 out of 5 eggsUPDATE 11/19/2015

Pros: It's working, only after 3 days of researching and testing. Still only okay increase in speed over motherboard's sata2. And that's only if you can make this thing to work properly.

Cons: DRIVER, DRIVER, DRIVER!!
Decided to do a fresh install of W10 and it took forever to install. It was like as if it was writing to a CD slow. I took my own advice and tried to install W7 driver in the beginning but it rendered disc unusable for install. Syba will probably tell you to use W10 native driver but prepare to wait HOURS for the windows to install if not fail in the middle. I finally got fed up after 4 hours and secure erased my brand new SSD and installed over onboard sata2 which went smoothly as expected. After installing all needed drivers here are the results:

Seq R/W : 265/256
4K : 38/61
4K-64Thrd : 203/159
Acc.time : 0.141ms / 0.053ms

Not that bad but I bought this stupid thing for a reason. I installed this card to PCIE 2.0 4x slot and attached same SSD that has OS installed over sata2 port. It booted up but again had to deal with slow boot and response time. I let it sit for 10 min and tried again and it seemed to respond fine until I ran the test again:

Seq R/W : 335/333
4K : 37/64
4K-64Thrd : 3/0.8
Acc.time : n/a

4K scores are same and I'm fine with that but 4K-64thrd was 3/0.8 and that's what's keeping the system to a crawl. There's not multitasking with that kind of speed. So I tried W7 driver as I had good success with it previously over W10 upgrade from W7. The result was no change this time. Still lagging and not responding to even mouse clicks. Both Asmedia and Syba had drivers on their site. After many searches, I found updated drivers from what appears to be from Asus.
search key: asmedia_asm_106x_sata_3.1.7.0_3.1.8.0

After installing this driver, boot up was normal and here are the results:

Seq R/W : 386/333
4K : 37/64
4K-64Thrd : 355/225
Acc.time : 0.140ms / 0.054ms

Now we are cooking. Is it stable? I have no clue. And I have no intention of spending any more hours on this card. The next time it starts to act up, I'm going to return it because it also has problem in W7 install. Maybe it's all good as long as you use onboard sata to install OS and then move to this but YMMV.

Other Thoughts: I'm giving this 1 egg on fact that the manufacturer is not keeping up with the driver. They don't even have official W8 driver. If others with same chipset can come up with series of drivers for current OS, why can't Syba? They are quick to reply to your bad review but nothing is being done.

My advice to those looking at this card. If you have sata3 SSD on sata2 and wanting to upgrade, don't expect too much but expect lot of headaches if you are looking for bootable solution. But I guess I've done all the homework for you if you still want it. It's still a pretty good speed upgrade per dollar spent with this promo going on.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as it should in W7 AND W10

Pros: Cheap SATA3 upgrade to my x58 board. Bootable. PCIE 2.0. Driver for W7 also does wonders for W10.

Cons: Slower in W10 vs W7 with proper driver. Upgrading to W10 from W7 still required manual driver update. Slower than native SATA3 chip on board but that's across the board for add-ons. Poor driver support from Syba. No way to link HDD LED

Other Thoughts: Works great in W7 even without the driver and using the driver that came with showed very minimal gain. Upgraded to W10 and that started a hell. The sequential r/w stays about same but saw dip in 4k r/w but huge dip for 4k-64thrd. It was down to 130/8 from 356/263! Went Googling for solution and many talked about APM being on is the issue and it should be turned off. After few tries that failed, I decided to give W7 driver a try. Reboot and boom! back to being close to W7 performance. This begs the question why there isn't W10 driver. It seems it needs one seeing that it affects performance. I might give turning off APM on SSD again but overall, this card is a must get to maximize SSD upgrade performance on older boards.

Asrock X58 Extreme
i7 920 @ 3.7ghz
12GB ram

IMPORTANT! You must plug this into PCIE 2.0 slot and not the 1x slot. It will fit in 1x slot but if it's not a 2.0 spec, you will not get full speed for your sata3 SSD. But if you are using this as expansion for additional mechanical drives or older SSD, 1x is fine.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works just fine

Pros: I was worried this was too inexpensive to be true, but it worked perfectly right out of the box. I run Win 7 and didn't need to use the supplied software at all. Windows found it and installed drivers just fine. I now have 5 drives in the computer. I don't even have to setup any raid.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsAs advertised

Pros: This was a great solution to a common problem. Most Intel based mini itx motherboards only have 2 sata connections. I use mini itx boards in low powered builds and was frustrated by the lack of a 3rd or 4th sata connection. This board solves that problem. Very easy to install and set up under Linux. I haven't used one in a windows machine, but, I'll assume that it would be just as easy as Linux.

Cons: It didn't come with free candy ...
