5 out of 5 eggsGood tuner

Pros: I've used this USB tuner for over 2 years. It works well with Windows Media Center. I have it on a desktop with another tuner from AverMedia and they get along fine. This allows me to record two shows at one time.

Cons: none that I've found.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works great for viewing HDTV, using it as a QAM decoder.

Cons: Recording HDTV is hit or miss on most channels. Video stutter or has choppy frame rate. In comparison, using the cam coax outlet and cable, hooking up a DHCT 6412 from Motorola via the FireWire cable, I get perfect frame rate. So not having a hardware decoder to handle things does have its set backs.

Other Thoughts: This was meant to replace my Fusion HD Gold cards, which while didnt have video frame rate problems, were mostly prone to crashing.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: When I'm able to get the stations, things are fine. Using HD antennas did not help.

Cons: The software is like a crude beta release. Not user friendly at all. Switching channels, for example, is a pain.

1 out of 5 eggs8 hrs wasted so far

Pros: none

Cons: After installing it found only 5 or so of the channels available. I tried reinstalling and every other idea I could think of. I am not a tech genius but I have been using computers for 30 years. It should not be that hard to install and have work correctly.

5 out of 5 eggsQuite a success

Pros: This little usb unit has been straightforward to install and use. The included software is a little awkward, but that's ok. I'm using it on windows 7 pro. I've recorded a couple of things OTA and it fills the need I had perfectly.

I have not tried it with cable, not sure how it would work with that. But with the included antenna, I am able to receive quite a few channels.

Cons: None really, other than somewhat less than perfect included software...but even that is ok.

1 out of 5 eggsBad driver

Pros: Works as advertised some of the time.

Cons: Driver causes many problems on Win 7. Blue screen on startup at times and sometimes will not load. Once installed, it cannot be removed via the control panel programs and features. Stay away, not worth the hassle.

Other Thoughts: Once I used a special program to get rid of it, the BSOD and other problems stopped.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
However, we are not aware of any faulty driver with Windows 7 on this product since its launch more than a year ago.
Sometimes, a crashing issue can be caused by an aging operating system due to its nature of complexity mixed with external software components.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the product, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at usreview@msi.com and we will be more than happy to assist you, thank you.

Best Regards,
MSI Review Team | usreview@msi.com

5 out of 5 eggsIt's dinky but works fine

Pros: Works well with an antenna, which is the only way I used it.

Cons: The software is bulky and is not that well written.

Other Thoughts: Looking around I could not find a unit that worked well with cable TV, and I wondered how my setup would fair.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: easy install, works well, great picture

Cons: TotalMedia 3.5 is nice but the darn thing keeps crashing when changing channels. Remote often not seen by device so wont change channels

Other Thoughts: Now have all my multimedia things on computer. Its nice. This was the last purchase needed and it was worth the wait. Even better, they all work together.

Only thing I need is to find other software to use with this device.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as over the air HDTV tuner

Pros: Is recognized by Windows Media Center (WMC), which eliminates using the included recording software. It doesn't seem quite as sensitive as my Silicon Dust dual TV tuner or ATI PCIE slot tuner, but it's good enough. Comes with four inch USB jack/USB plug extension. This is a necessity if for a laptop. Otherwise you have this awkward paddle sticking out your laptop USB jack. Works well with over-the-air TV.

Cons: All of these generic QAM tuners are difficult to use with cable TV. Most cable channels will not be decoded. Investigate a Ceton tuner card for cable. I don't use it for cable, just over the air. All HDTV recorded files are huge (1080p is about 8gig an hour).

Other Thoughts: It comes with a little single whip antenna with a magnetic mount. Use this for an FM tuner. These little antennas will only work for HDTV if you live near the broadcast tower. This might allow you to receive broadcast TV on your laptop while you are traveling, but not count on it. No HDTV tuner will make up for an inadequate antenna. All HDTV stations in the my area (Boston) are on UHF, which means a relatively small roof top antenna works very well. Records straight to your hard drive.
