Pros: Simplicity to use from both the hardware and software perspective makes it well worth the price. Basically just set it up, hit record and walk away. Very simply and easy to use. I use my computer for mostly gaming and messing with video is something I know nothing about. This thing does the work for you!

Cons: The software is a bit touchy. have a dual monitor setup and noticed that when I drag the recording window (while it is recording) to the other monitor to get it out of the way, it will skew the audio. I found it best to just allow time for recording and just walk away. Not even worth an egg in my opinion, though I was archiving short videos and could see how longer videos could definitely cause some anger.

The only other con for me was the price, it is high, BUT after looking at other products and reading reviews, nothing seemed quite as complete of a package as this.

Other Thoughts: Very satisfied with the results so far. I have been using it to backup some VHS tapes and its been great.

Pros: Over the years I've tried many different systems for transferring VHS family tapes to my computer. Elgato is by far the best and easiest I've ever used. I plugged in my 15-year-old VHS, attached it to my Mac, and started up the Elgato software. That was all it took. I've been importing 25-year-old tapes all day. As easy as pressing a button.

Cons: None.

Pros: Does what the product description says- captures video.

Cons: Low Quality video capture (about 2.5 mb/s)

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend buying this. The capture bitrate is very low (around 2.5 mb/s) which will compress your image even further from its original analog quality. I would recommend another option like going to through a DV port from an old camcorder or DV deck or finding something else that will not give you such quality loss.

For quick and easy capture, go with the Elgato, but if you're a professional or expect high quality results I would stray away.

Pros: Simple hardware/software to use. I own the Honestech 7.0 Deluxe, and the Diamond VLC video Capture. The Elgato far surpasses the others in hardware/software that works. The other two kept losing too many frames, and the video was unwatchable. I tried using the Elgato device with the Honestech software, and still too many frames were being lossed. The Elgato software worked better.

Cons: The Elgato software has very little settings available which is why I dropped an egg. Atleast I could pick the 16:9 ratio so I can watch it better on my TV and computer.

Other Thoughts: I had some problems at the beginning, but just decided to not running anything on my computer while it was capturing the video, and this fixed my problems.

If you are wanting to capture video from VHS, then consider this product over the Diamond VLC and the Honestech.

Pros: Until the Video Capture s/w can be made to work for me, there's nothing positive to say.

Cons: The Video Capture s/w causes my Win7 Ulltimate desktop to hang hard about 3 seconds after starting it up.I am working with Elgato customer support now on it but they are SLOW to respond (days between responses) and their 2 attempts to assist so far have not been successful. Latest drivers were a pain to get installed - had an undocumented requirement on MSXML 4.0. Uninstall did not seem to remove everything that was installed. I think this will have to be returned to NewEgg.

Pros: Easy to use. Feels well built.

Cons: Record quality was questionable. Had to redo several of the videos I was transferring because the audio did not match the video when the video was finished.

Other Thoughts: One of the best solutions I have found for transferring your old home movies to digital format.

Pros: Easy to use, easy to install

Cons: Sometimes the driver cuts on the Mac

Other Thoughts: I'd buy it again in a heart beat. Converted over 150 hrs of Hi8 video to digital with no problems.

Pros: Works perfectly with OBS, and Xsplit. Though it takes some tinkering to get it set up

Cons: sometimes the audio will start getting some static but that's fixable. For streaming, you need to turn on the elgato software for the sound to work.

Other Thoughts: Works pretty well with capturing PS2, PS3, and GC, need to test it out on other consoles. I do not use this device to capture video, I just use it for streaming off of game consoles.

Pros: Simple setup, does what it's supposed to do.

Cons: Compatible with Mac OS and Windows 7 only.

Other Thoughts: Running Win 7 64 bit, this little gem was up and running in about 10 minutes. Setup was easy and transferring old VHS tapes to your PC couldn't be simpler. You'll pay a little more for this one, but its like they say, you get what you pay for.

Pros: Amazing, powerful and simple to use. Works on my Win7 x64 so far and haven't been able to attempt on a MAC yet.

Cons: Wish it came with an S-Video Cable but who cares.. Also, it cannot and I repeat cannot scramble eggs properly.
