5 out of 5 eggs3rd order

Pros: Works right out of the box
No issues in over 2 ½ years of almost constant use

Cons: Would rather have a straight USB cable with it (non-retractable)

Other Thoughts: I've used this for going on 3 years every day at work and I have yet to have an issue with it. I just ordered this again for the 3rd time for home use. Very pleased!

4 out of 5 eggsVery useful product; seems to have a connection issue

Pros: An easy and inexpensive way to add real estate for programming, light web browsing, etc. Clarity is good. YouTube videos play reasonably well.

Cons: My unit seems to have a connectivity issue which I initially attributed to the flimsy USB cable included with the device. After replacing the cable the problem remains, however. If the device is bumped the third monitor drops out, resulting in applications being moved to the primary screen. Often the third display returns almost immediately, but it's a hassle and an interruption.

Other Thoughts: I haven't tried gaming on the third monitor, and I don't typically play video on it with two other monitors available for that. For web programming it's been a fantastic tool. Code editors and static web content are much more accessible with a third display.

1 out of 5 eggsCompletely Dead after 2 years

Pros: Not sure about the cons of this particular device. Only exciting factor for me was to attach 3 external monitors to my laptop.

Cons: It is completely dead after a little over 2 years of moderate use. I added this to my laptop to have 3rd Samsung LCD monitor. It has been always buggy since I used this first time. Throws BSOD. When my laptop goes to hibernate, it will not recognize when it comes out of it. I have an HP Pavilion dv7. I do programming on this laptop so I never played any games on this laptop. However, I did notice some lags when I watch videos or move things around. The usb cable that comes with this device is hideous. Seriously? It is attached to a usb 3.0 port, however I constantly had issues where the monitor won't receive any signal. Anyway, it just sucks. ok?

Other Thoughts: I ordered another device. Don't bother with this one.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

Pros: When it works it works

Cons: Under certain circumstances the display adapter will not only stop working but will slow your system down to molasses and turn off all external monitors (henceforth called molasses mode). Those situations are:
- Resuming from sleep
- Power on
- Re-docking your laptop (if it's plugged into docking station)

It seems to be confused as to whether or not it should be in extended mode. Cranking up the sleep timeout in Windows helps in some cases but not all.
If you manually switch to extended mode (Win + P 3 times) it will go back to functioning as normal.
To try and circumvent this, I'll power my laptop up undocked, set it to extended mode - THEN dock it. Everything will work for a second, then it will shut off all the external displays and go back to molasses mode. Reached out to HIS for support and they said it was a driver thing that may get fixed in the future - that was six months ago.

Other Thoughts: I really wouldn't buy this thing. There are better products out there.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for a 3rd monitor

Pros: Easy to install... Windows detects driver automatically, but I usually just install the driver straight from the DisplayLink website to ensure stability. Easy and cheap to get a 3rd monitor on. Never have any issues with these... we have ordered over 8 of these things.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Solid product. Comes with a nice bag.

5 out of 5 eggsIt gets the job done!

Pros: Company bought this for my office laptop to attach a Dell 19" 4:3 LCD monitor (rez is at 1280x1024). Only tested out with YouTube videos in large and full screen with no lag or stutter. However for reading office docs and server monitoring tools, it gets the job done. Running Win 8.1.1 using DisplayLink driver version 7.6 M0. Its temp is still room temp. This gets the job done without the sluggishness and high temps I've seen from other USB display adapters especially the USB docking stations with video and network connections. Of course, it is made by HIS Digital and DisplayLink which are synonymous with good video cards and adapters.

Cons: None so far.

3 out of 5 eggsTypical

Pros: Works at 1080 and higher. DVI.

Cons: Unstable. After two months it has started to reset itself. I have to stop the displaylink service. Unplug the device. Plug it back in. Start the service. Move all my windows back into place. The most baffling is it decides to do this while I am working on other screens or at night while there is no activity.

1 out of 5 eggsUnusable on Mavericks

Pros: Works as long as you're dealing with static content.

Cons: Very laggy

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my 13" Macbook Pro (late 2011) running Mavericks. Seems to display static content quite well, but the mouse is very laggy which pretty much makes it unusable for me. Dynamic stuff like movies is a no-no.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Softlad,

We would recommend you to download and try and latest driver version 2.1 for Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

Please feel free to contact us if you have further questions.
