5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for a 3rd monitor

Pros: Easy to install... Windows detects driver automatically, but I usually just install the driver straight from the DisplayLink website to ensure stability. Easy and cheap to get a 3rd monitor on. Never have any issues with these... we have ordered over 8 of these things.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Solid product. Comes with a nice bag.

5 out of 5 eggsIt gets the job done!

Pros: Company bought this for my office laptop to attach a Dell 19" 4:3 LCD monitor (rez is at 1280x1024). Only tested out with YouTube videos in large and full screen with no lag or stutter. However for reading office docs and server monitoring tools, it gets the job done. Running Win 8.1.1 using DisplayLink driver version 7.6 M0. Its temp is still room temp. This gets the job done without the sluggishness and high temps I've seen from other USB display adapters especially the USB docking stations with video and network connections. Of course, it is made by HIS Digital and DisplayLink which are synonymous with good video cards and adapters.

Cons: None so far.

3 out of 5 eggsTypical

Pros: Works at 1080 and higher. DVI.

Cons: Unstable. After two months it has started to reset itself. I have to stop the displaylink service. Unplug the device. Plug it back in. Start the service. Move all my windows back into place. The most baffling is it decides to do this while I am working on other screens or at night while there is no activity.

1 out of 5 eggsUnusable on Mavericks

Pros: Works as long as you're dealing with static content.

Cons: Very laggy

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my 13" Macbook Pro (late 2011) running Mavericks. Seems to display static content quite well, but the mouse is very laggy which pretty much makes it unusable for me. Dynamic stuff like movies is a no-no.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Softlad,

Thank you for your support to HIS.
We would recommend you to download and try and latest driver version 2.1 for Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

Please feel free to contact us if you have further questions.
Again, thank you for your interest and support to HIS products.

Warm Regards,
HIS Marketing

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed

Pros: It works, well. It drives my 4th monitor, which has a resolution of 1920x1200. I get 1080p video playback on it without a problem. For the first month it was connected to a USB 2.0 port, Yesterday I upgraded the motherboard and I'm on usb 3.0 now, and I do not notice a difference at all. I can easily launch a 1080p mkv and it will play back with ease.

Cons: Text sometimes goes "out of focus" when the focus is shifted away from the monitor, so it becomes a little blurry. Never with video, only with text such as file names on open folders, web text, etc.

When I first installed it, on both systems, it would restart every 10-15 minutes, for about the first hour. There would be a device disconnected sound, and hten it would reappear. This stopped before long though and hasn't been an issue.

Other Thoughts: I run 2 GTX 580's in SLI with nvidia surround. I wanted to add a 4th monitor above the primary monitor to watch shows or browse the web while I game, but didn't have room for a 3rd video card to drive it, so after much reluctance, I decided to try this.

You know and feel that it's not a full video card. But as a non-primary display responsible only for playing back some video or web browsing, it works great. I thought upgrading to usb 3.0 would solve my "fuzzy and out of focus" issue when the monitor isn't the primary focus, but that hasn't been the case. It still works well.

If I had nvidia's GTX6xx series video cards, I wouldn't need another video card to drive the accessory monitor, I oculd have used the 4th port on the 580's I have, but unfortunately that feature did not become available with my series.

Download the updated drivers from the displaylink site.

I'm running Windows 8 x64 and have not had any issues.

You must enable nvidia surround BEFORE you plug this card in, you cannot get into the nvidia control panel while you have a monitor connected that is not on your primary video card(s).

1 out of 5 eggsGreat until the BSoD's

Pros: Easy to configure in Windows 7 once driver is installed.

Cons: Device seemed to work at first. But my hopes were dashed when the first Blue Screen came up. I quickly downloaded the latest drivers from DisplayLink's website (7.3) and still had the same issues. I purchased 6 of these and tried them on 5 different computers running Win7 Pro 64bit. Every computer and HIS device caused the computers to crash. I opened a ticket with HIS support two weeks ago and have yet to hear back from them.

Other Thoughts: I purchased these for our customer service department. We needed them to have three monitors. These seemed to be a great cheap solution. It may just be a driver issue but I cannot get a hold of the manufacturer's support team (if they have one) to get some help.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as designed

Pros: Works perfectly to host a 3rd monitor off of my Latitude's docking station. This is a work/productivity application and has no issues running this class of applications.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I cannot comment to its behavior for gaming, but I would never recommend USB anything in the demands of a gaming application.

5 out of 5 eggsUse this daily, enterprise user

Pros: I use this daily to run my #3 monitor on my laptop. No performance issues, just works.

Cons: not quite sure why it comes with a travel case. I'd rather pay $5 less and loose the case / retracting cable.

Other Thoughts: I've used several USB video adapters and all but this one have had performance issues. This one you could sit down and use my laptop and not know which monitor was the USB vs the docking station video outputs. Videos, large documents etc are no issue for this adapter.
