This SIIG card reader with built-in floppy disk drive is designed for installation in a 3.5" drive bay, or, with included adapter rack, into a 5.25" bay on your desktop computer. Cleaver design, but just 1 caveat.
- Pros: Works great. Real fast data transfers. Great use of front panel real estate.
- Cons: Windows might get confused as to whether this is a real hard drive or not.
- Other Thoughts: I made the mistake of having this connected while doing an new install of Windows XP. The result was that the main (boot) hard drive was assigned a drive letter of 'G' and 'C' was assigned to one of the card reader slots.
NOT a good thing! Although Windows itself will work just fine off of pretty much any drive letter, many programmers hard-code 'C:\' to certain software components. If 'C' happens to be an empty card reader slot, all sorts of software problems pop up.
I had to actually disconnect this unit temporarily and re-install Windows, as the drive letter to the boot drive cannot be changed.
Other than that, this unit works just fine and has excellent data transfer rates.
Great - No Problems
- Pros: Works fine. Internal connections are split by pin for compatibility with ANY MoBo. Also includes adapter for standard USB plug (for external or passthrough use). Only two devices, different cards share ports (ie. SM/SD) but who cares, how often does one need to mix all types of flash. Floppy is a floppy, what to say, it operates as such, havent given it a real test yet, but loaded my raid drivers fine during XP setup.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: Others note drive order issues with Win install, this is no fault of the device, it will happen with ANY external storage device, but should not happen to boot drive unless USB boot is enabled in BIOS, just turn it off. Re-ordering drives after install takes a minute to restore CD/DVD drive lettering and I usually re-letter my removable anyway.

Expensive, but a good value
- Pros: Installs to USB header OR USB port with adapter. My old USB device it replaced had to have a cable go out the back. This goes right to the system board USB header, or with an adapter to a USB port if need be. Red light renotes power up switches to green with diskette insertion. Comes with 5 1/4 bay adapter, most don't seem to. I ended up using OEM Antec bay adapter, anyway. but its nice to have had the option.

- Pros: well, its a card reader.
- Cons: difficult to install on my ASUS P5N-D. floppy wouldnt work half the time. i ended up pulling it and selling it, use laptop card reader.
