SIIG’s FireWire 3-Port PCI I/O is a cost-effective product designed to add 3 high-speed FireWire 400 (1394a) ports to your desktop computer. This FireWire 3-Port host adapter delivers data transfer rates of up to 400Mb/s, supports both asynchronous and isochronous data transfer modes, and allows you to hot-swap devices (connect and disconnect) without first turning your system off. It works seamlessly with a variety of FireWire 400 (1394a) devices including DV camcorders, hard disk drive enclosures, memory card readers, CD-RW/DVD-RAMs, and FireWire enabled audio/video devices such as TVs and set-top boxes.

The FireWire 3-Port PCI I/O host adapter comes with three external 6-pin (1394a) ports. It is designed with a single VIA VT6306 chip and is fully compliant with PCI Plug-n-Play 2.2 specification and fully supports IEEE 1394-1995 and 1394a-2000 and 1394 OHCI 1.1 standards. It is also FCC Class B (DoC) & CE regulatory approved and RoHS-compliant.

NytWolf 1/23/2009 8:29:20 AM Tech Level: 5/5 Ownership: 1/5	Rating: 5/5Very good, so far Pros: Cheap price, but now discontinued by manufacturer. Windows XP Pro with SP3 detected and installed drivers for it without a hitch. Works great so far. Adobe Premiere captures from it, no problem. Cons: VIA chipset: I wanted to find a 1394 card that uses the TI chipset, but the retail box didn't list the chipset it uses. As you can see from the pictures, SIIG puts a sticker over the chip also, so it's not easy to see unless you know what you're looking for. There is no 4-pin connector, but no biggie for me. Other Thoughts: Although the TI chipset offers better hardware and software compatibility, this VIA-based card gave me no problems. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard (purchased via NewEgg), and it gave me no problems. Previously, I purchased a PPA Inc 1202 (check my review) from a local retailer and Win XP says it needed drivers. Did you find this review helpful? Thanks for the valuable feedback you provided!
