5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works right out of the box
Came with extra accessories (we didn't need them, but it's always nice when a company provides them, just in case)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Would not seat properly in the Cooler Master Elite 431 Plus, but I'm fairly certain it was an issue with the case, as it seated properly in the external build, as well as when put in a different slot.

3 out of 5 eggsBought two, one DOA

Pros: When it works, it works. Works with firewire 400 out of the box - Additional driver enables firewire 800 speeds.

Cons: Of the two we got, one refused to work.

Other Thoughts: I'd buy another of these if I really needed FireWire, but with eSATA and USB 3, I'm done with firewire.

1 out of 5 eggsDisater

Pros: None.

Cons: Horrible driver support. Never achieved Firewire B speeds. Once installed, it would freeze up my computer when I would try to boot. Once disconnected, the PC started normally.

2 out of 5 eggsCard was used

Pros: Don't know have not tried it, yet.

Cons: I paid for a new card. It would have been nice if newegg did not sell me a used card.

4 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: works, use unibrain drivers in 7x64

Cons: lots of noise on the PCI bus. Meaning I can actually hear my DROBO drives spinning up through my presonus 26x26 which is on a different FW card. I did some mu shileding and helped the problem. FW800 is a lame physical interface with no clicking on the connections or other retainers.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Card - So So Drivers

Pros: Nice, compact card. Fits well with my Dell Small Form Factor Optiplex 780 with the low-profile bracket.

Cons: Drivers that came on the CD with the card were not compatible with my Canon HV30 HDV camera. Spent many hours troubleshooting the camera to later find that updating the firewire card drivers in Windows device manager, found a Texas Instruments driver that was better than the inluded "UniBrain" driver. (That's what you get for folliwing instructions some times....grrr)

Other Thoughts: For the price, this is a great buy - considering the lifetime warranty. Thanks Newegg!

5 out of 5 eggsOh Yeah

Pros: Works great. VNC & file swap directly between connected computers while they are connected to the home network.

Cons: Weird drivers on cd, but who cares since the base XP drivers work well enough. Showing up as 100mb speed even though the transfers are coming off much faster.

Other Thoughts: I got this to get some practical experience with FW since work got some devices and I was drafted as resident "expert," and with the economy I wanted to potentially blow stuff up at the house vs work.

5 out of 5 eggsGood card

Pros: Easy to install firewire card. You'll need a screwdriver to switch from the standard to low profile bracket, that is of course par for the course.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Note that this is a 1x PCIe card. One PCIe lane is 2.0Gbit/s, Firewire 800 is 800Mbit/s so all three firewire 800 ports cannot draw full bandwidth at once. This is likely irrelevant to most people purchasing the card, but keep it in mind.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Installed with no issues. Had to load the included driver for XP. I am using it with a Lexar FW800 card reader. It is super fast.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Easy to install. Works perfectly.

Pros: Cheap, easy to install, works.
