1 out of 5 eggsDriver crashed system

Pros: Can't tell. Installing the driver crashes my windows 7 system.

Cons: While installing the driver, the install program reports that it has a problem and closes. After that, Explorer will not open and re-booting requires a system restore. Subsequent installs do the same thing.

Other Thoughts: I have used other brands that use the windows drivers. Have to wonder why SIIG felt the need to write their own.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to set up, works as expected

Pros: Simple to set up. Small. Doesn't get hot. Software receives regular updates. Just like using a physical VGA or DVI port.

Cons: Doesn't make me coffee in the morning. Refuses to go on bike rides with me. Centaurs are intimidated by it.

Other Thoughts: What more is there to say? It's a simple, low-cost solution to add a second or third monitor when you don't have an extra VGA or DVI port to do so. Sure, it takes up a USB port, but who cares? I'd rather have an extra 24" of screen real estate than a USB cup warmer.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great on a Mac running OSX 10.7.3

Pros: Works! up to 1920x1200 display resolution!
Works with other displaylink devices connected to the same computer without any conflicts (The spec says up to 6 devices can be connected to the same machine)
Mac OSX Lion 10.7.3 compatible with Alpha version 1.8 display link driver.
Displaylink certified
Possible to rotate displays in OSX which is a must for me. (Hold down the Command+Option keys and click on the “Displays” icon to bring up the rotation tab for each display)
Works great even with VMware fusion windows at full screen!

Cons: Slower than a real display port so scrolling/video graphics-intensive apps don't respond as quickly as a real display port.

Other Thoughts: I use this with a Mac Book Air mid 2011 for an extra display. I run it alongside another compatible displaylink adapter for a total of 4 screens including the laptop's built in display. I'll be swapping out the other displaylink adapter for another one of these in the near future to run another 1920x1200 display, although I could run with a 5 screen configuration! The display link driver is currently in the alpha stage version 1.8, since the screen rotation broke when OPX went to 10.7.3. If you have 10.7.2 or earlier, then their driver version 1.7 will work. Check the displaylink website and forums to get the latest info and drivers.

2 out of 5 eggsThe jury is out

Pros: While i would characterize this gear's protocols or process as quirky,it worked well enough for about 5 weeks. It then started to exibit all the symptoms of a failing video processor ala the nvidia fiasco. We filled out the rma request on siig's site and we will have to wait and see how well they rush to our assistance.

Cons: The driver software is a little bit clumsy and you must run windows update to install the microsoft update after you have either installed the most recent software from the siig website or the provided media. Without the update it will not work well. Another unrelated annoyance is the fact that the siig software to manipulate their gear does not conjoin with windows native software making multiple monitor contol rather clumsy. If one wants to improve on that disparity they recommend a business partners third party software which will cost you extra.

Other Thoughts: Like i said, the jury is out and we were quite disappointed that the device failed after such a short period of time. Obviously we checked our gear and software and switched monitors and all that until we were certain the flaw was exclusive to the siig unit. We will upddate this information according to the rapidity and concientiousness of siig's response to our problem. In other words we will let you know how it goes.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: 1920 x 1200 works near flawlessly. It can even play 1080p video, but at a lower frame rate, I'd guess maybe somewhere between 15 and 20. Good enough that uneducated people wouldn't even notice it. Color, sharpness, brightness is all perfect at any resolution.

Cons: Can get hot, I hope this doesn't lead to failure someday.
And pretty expensive.

Other Thoughts: It better last considering the price.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: 1920 x 1200 resolution works perfectly.
High Quality feel and look.
No brainer operation - just install D-link's latest driver, plug it into any USB 2.0 or better port (including those on a docking station) and enjoy. I have three 1920x1200 displays and the one with the SIIG actually looks as good as the native HDMI directly connected monitor. I also tried a DVI to HDMI adapter connected to the SIIG so I can use HDMI to connect the monitor. This also works perfectly and even the color graddient is dead on with the native HDMI connective monitor. DO not get the USB to HDMI version as it doesn't support full 1920 x 1200. Get the DVI version and use a converter like I did to realize full resolution.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I put a lot of time making this decision - comparing and investigating simillar products. Far too much actually but that's my nature.
