1 out of 5 eggsWish I read the other reviews here first

Pros: USB 2.0 devices work

Cons: Dual display does not work.

Other Thoughts: Tried this on 2 laptop. A Compal with Window 8.0 and DVI and VGA display and a Lenovo with Windows 10 and HDMI display. Neither would display on the second monitor which was the whole reason why I bought this. I already have a USB hub which cost far less.

2 out of 5 eggsNightmare to set up, only works with USB 3 turned off (USB 2.0 mode)

Pros: Works (barely)

Cons: Cons:

1.) NIGHTMARE to set up. Known driver issues with Intel XHCI USB 3.0 Microsoft drivers. (see other thoughts below on how to fix it)
2.) Would ONLY work if you disable USB 3.0 and force USB 2.0 in bios
3.) Documentation non existent
4.) Online drivers are a joke. They are minimalist at best, and
5.) DOES NOT WORK ON Windows 10 (Install gets blocked. I had to go back to 8.1)

Other Thoughts: NOTE: I am Samer H (reviewed earlier). Couldn't find a way to just edit my review, so posted a new one

Bought this so I can have my laptop and desktop share my 2 nice LCD monitors. My plan was to eventually phase out the desktop altogether.

This was a NIGHTMARE to set up.

What I did to eventually get it working:

1.) Update all drivers with Intel and Microsoft versions both on Windows update and by manually installing (Note: This by itself didn't fix anything, but its something I did so listing it here)
2.) Update my BIOS (Lenovo had an update)
3.) DO NOT BOTHER REPLACING MICROSOFT XHCI DRIVERS WITH INTEL ONES. ONCE YOU INSTALL AND REBOOT IT JUST GIVES A CODE 10.
4.) Fully update the machine with Windows Update (yes even the silly malicious software removal tool, etc)
5.) Install the latest DisplayLink driver (you may need to remove all instances using add/remove programs and manually shut down processes before doing this)
6.) IMPORTANT: This is what I think REALLY solved the issue: Go into your BIOS settings and set USB3 mode to Disabled
7,) Reboot
8.) (Optional) unplug/re-plug the dock and/or power cycle it.

Conclusion:

1.) Yes this was a nightmare to figure out
2.) No I would not recommend this product
3.) Do yourself a favor and invest in a Lenovo dock or at least something that has 5 eggs. (The web site that is a river's name dot com) reviews can be helpful here too (Newegg didn't let me list it by name)
4.) SAVE YOUR MONEY. DO NOT BUY THIS TRASH

1 out of 5 eggsDon't work with Surface

Pros: Bought around half year ago and did research from time to time, trying to make it work. Manufacture website blame Microsoft. May be. Since they know it would not work with Surface for sometime, there should be a warning to the users. Tried one reviewer's suggestion to install Intel W7 driver, Surface refuses to do so.
So far it just sat on my desk and have never worked with Surface. Works with Lenovo T430X230 though.

Cons: Make it work with Surface!

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible. Save your money

Pros: None. Doesn't work!

Cons: Drivers do not work. Documentation is very minimalistic and has a very clear "printed abroad in China" feel to it (poor English). It doesn't work, therefore its a complete waste of time and money

Other Thoughts: Bought this so I can have my laptop and desktop share my 2 nice LCD monitors. My plan was to eventually phase out the desktop altogether. Needless to say this doesn't work. I downloaded the driver from their web site but it didn't work either. I'm running Windows 8 x64, nothing fancy or unsupported. The driver on their web site claims to support windows 8.

THIS IS UTTER RUBBISH. DO NOT BUY

5 out of 5 eggsNice, once you get it running

Pros: It gives me one place to plug everything in, works pretty well but still has its own share of quirks. It did not want to work with my Intel eXtensible USB controller in Win8 - there is only the default driver from Microsoft...kinda.

Cons: Have to jump through a ton of hoops to get it working. Mouse studder/lag on occasion still.

Other Thoughts: After fighting with it and running into the "reported/known issues" and doing everything I could think of, I stumbled over a way to get the Win7 Intel drivers in place for the USB controller and then it just works. Details on the fix are outlined here: http://plugable.com/2012/12/01/windows-8-and-intel-usb-3-0-host-Controllers - worked for me.

2 out of 5 eggsWould be nice if it worked in Windows 8

Pros: USB 3.0 front ports, HDMI & DVI, 4 USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit LAN, front audio ports. Doesn't take up a lot of space on the desk. Decent features for the price, which is the only real reason I haven't dropped it down to one egg.

Cons: Docking station is not recognized under Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. I have installed the latest DisplayLink driver (Core software version: 7.1.45125.0; Graphic version: v7.1.45135.0) from the manufacturer's website, made sure I am running the lastest Intel Chipset drivers for my machine, and even followed the manufacturer's knowledge base article regarding conflicts between the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver and the DisplayLink driver. The link to updated drivers on this Knowledge Base article points to an Intel driver installation file that is only supported in Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: Avoid if you are running a Windows 8 machine.
