5 out of 5 eggscant beat it!! software rocks!

Pros: installs easily (even on my p_o_s vista machine that i hate...sigh)
super value - software worth the price alone

Cons: doesnt come with bacon

Other Thoughts: Bought to pull off some video from an ancient camcorder.
Worked like a charm and I couldn't believe how nice the software was for the price. Now i'm sure true videophiles will laugh at this, but for an old f4rt like me, it rocked.

p.s Newegg is awesome

1 out of 5 eggsdoes not work well at all...

Pros: with both 4-pin and 6-pin connection
complete with software and cable (if it works)

Cons: the cable included does not work (tested it on regular firewire HD besides video, swithed with a working cable to find out!!)
the card does not work consistently, picky about cable and the slot to use, in the end, only the 6-pin one works.

Other Thoughts: going to return the package

3 out of 5 eggsWorked Some What..

Pros: Just plug and play. No drivers needed, WinXP installed all drivers. Works when it does.

Cons: Caused a blue screen with my computer, Dell. Memory problem with card. Could be the VIA chipset. Going to buy a new card.

5 out of 5 eggsFine in Vista, and has extras!

Pros: Works fine. I needed a full-size card, and when I got the box and it said "low profile" I thought uh-oh. However, I opened the box and it had an adapter to make it full-height. Also, it comes with a firewire cable, which if bought separately is probably $10.

Cons: none I can think of.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not Plug and Play with Vista

Pros: Can't think of one since it does not work

Cons: Vista loaded a driver that it says is compatible but the device will not start. No driver with the box. No driver available for download on the manufacturers website.

Other Thoughts: I'll be trying tech support to resolve and will post any solution that I get online. But I was very disappointed in the card since it is listed as a Vista compatible card.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with XP

Pros: I purchased a new Canon HV30 HDV camcorder not realizing that I needed a firewire connection to load my movies to the computer for editing. So, I purchased this one. It installed quickly and since I'm running windows XP SP2 my system found the card and automatically loaded the drivers needed. I paid a little more for this card because it has a 4 to 6 pin cable and Uleads Video Studio 9. This was a newer version then all the other cards offering only version 8. So, the card, cable, and video editing software seemed like a good deal for the price. Works great.

Cons: Like the previous reviewer said, the card does not have a 4 pin and 6 pin connection. It has two 6 pin connections and one internal connection. Not that big of a deal for me, they did include a 4 to 6 pin cable. One of the major reasons for purchasing this card was because of the video editing software included. Here's the deal. If you have just a regular DV camera, this software will work for you. However, my new camcorder is HD (HDV) and video studio 9 does not support HDV format. So, I had to down scale to DV to get the software to upload my video to my computer. Not the fault of the software however, a little disappointing that it doesn’t support HDV, the whole reason I bought my new camera. I guess I'll need to upgrade to something that supports the higher video quality.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and it works great. There may be cheaper cards available however, I'm a believer that you get what you pay for. So, rather then going with the cheapest card, I went up a little in price (mid 20 dollar range) but I still feel it was a great price for what you get. Also, the ease of just installing and windows XP does the rest was appealing to me.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: See Below

Cons: See Below

Other Thoughts: Just a heads-up that the product does not match the photo... check the Startech.com web site and you'll see that one external port is 4-pin and one is 6-pin. Still good but save yourself the surprise...

5 out of 5 eggsQuick and Easy

Pros: Plug and play with Vista 32. Connected my Canon Elura 100, downloaded video. Nothing to it. Didn't have to load anything for the card or camera.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: Works perfectly in an HP low profile dc7600 SFF (Intel Board) with Windows 2000/XP/XPx64/Server 2003/ Vista x32.

Cons: Was $5 cheaper one year ago when I bought the first one.

Other Thoughts: Solid card. Windows Server 2003 does not recognize a FAT formatted 250GB External F.A. Porsche LACIE drive connected via this card. The drive and all is actually recognized, but the file system shows up as "RAW" and is not read/writeable. Not the card's fault of course. Who uses the third internal connector?
