Pros: Adds 2 serial and 1 parallel port to your computer. Very useful if you would like to connect older hardware to a new computer that does not have these ports.

Cons: The product is supposed to work with Vista 64bit. Confirmed this also on StarTech's website. Are installing the product Windows recognizes the hardware and installs drivers. The ports show in Device Manager as working properly. However after a reboot Windows won't start up anymore and stop with a blue screen. Only way to resolve this was to remove the hardware again.

Pros: Buy a new PC and you won't be getting any serial or parallel ports. That's a problem if you have old devices that you would like to attach. I needed two serial ports and one parallel port on my new Dell XPS420 PC.

The Startech 16C550 was easy to install and worked immediately. I didn't need to use the included CD. The PC recognized the card and did what was necessary. The serial ports configured themselves to com 4 and com 5 and the parallel port to LPT1. My device software wanted lower com port numbers so I renumbered the ports in the Vista device manager as 1 and 2. No problems, they worked perfectly.

Pros: Easy to install.

Cons: Vendor represents: Serial Data Transfer Rate: Up to 920 Kbits/sec.

It wouldn't go faster than 115Kbaud, under Hyperterminal, despite installation of latest drivers. Unfortunately, relies on the same MosChip MCS9835CV chip, as a SYBA Model SD-PCI-2S1P uses, with the same disappointing result.
