Whether you're looking to upgrade your system's network connection speed or add redundancy, StarTech's Gigabit PCI-E is an exemplary solution. The 1x architecture allows it to be plugged into any PCI-E slot. It also eliminates interface bottlenecks.
The card's full duplex functionality allows up to 2000Mbps (1000Mbps each way) communication. Auto-negotiation, full or half duplex operation and automatic crossover detection enables easy installation into virtually any network environment.
Pros: I plugged it in and it read fine on my windows XP like the specs said it was supposed to. Installed quickly and correctly. This ethernet card works MUCH faster than my onboard one. Just make sure you have the correct Windows and all the necessary hardware just like the specs say and you'll have no problem at all. This was worth every cent.
Other Thoughts: The Fact that its PCI Express makes everything lightning speed. The chip is small so it wont get in the way of anything else.

Pros: It supposibly supports XP x64
Cons: Well for one, don't even try installing on Vista. I got the blue screen of death. Drivers are a pain to install on XP x64 if you don't know what you are doing. In my opinion, a total waste of money, there are better out there.
Other Thoughts: Keep plenty of asprin on hand.
