5 out of 5 eggsAdditional thought....

Pros: Works!

Cons: There is a resistor jumped over to a diode by one of the chips. I thought I had a defective unit, but I installed it anyway and it works as per my review below (hopefully it shows, I forgot to add this comment to it..???) don't let that scare you, seems to be normal.

5 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 x64 Compatible - Recipie

Pros: Works in Windows 7 x64 using an LGA 775 socket style motherboard. Running 4 DVD-RW drives with no system slowdown.

Cons: Not as simple as "push of a button" configuration...

Other Thoughts: Discard included CD - Or keep for coaster... or plaything...???
1.)Download the zip driver package from Startech
2.)Extract the Vista64 file within the Windows\Drivers folder and place in an easy to find location (desktop).
3.)Install the card into an available PCI - or - PCI-X slot (do not connect your drives just yet).
4.) Boot into Computer's bios and turn off any onboard 'IDE' controllers (just for now) and disable any "PCI BusMastering"
5.) boot into windows 7 x64, find the card in the "Device Manager" right click its title and update drivers --> direct it to the extracted Vista64 folder on the desktop.
6.) ReBoot - check that the device is working properly in the "Device Manager"
7.) Shutdown and attach your drives.
8.) Boot into windows again, give it time to recognize your drives (you may have to reboot again after they've been recognized)
9.) Test they are working, you should be done!

I had to shut off PCI BusMastering for the card to correctly identify the attached drives. I have yet to enable the single IDE port on the motherboard with this card installed; I have a feeling it would work, but the system is stable now, and I don't have any additional Items I need to attach. ^ I hope the above helps others make a decision about this item and get a little more life out of those IDE devices!

5 out of 5 eggsNice Product

Pros: Product works as intended, cheaply.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Great device for attaching older PATA/IDE devices to a newer MB.
No driver needed for my new ASUS P8Z77 MB.
Drops right in and instantly recognized my old IDE CD drive & 120GB HD.
Will accept up to 4 IDE drives.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: -It works
-Room for 2 ide cables to plug in (4 devices total)
-nice and small

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 is great about installing drivers automatically for just about anything on, in or hooked up to your computer. Had to install these drivers off the included CD.
Not a con at all for the product...just letting others know.

4 out of 5 eggsGood controller card

Pros: Its installation is fast and easy. I tied 4 DVD-RW and they work fine with this controller.

Cons: Not really a con per se, but it seems to be not compatible with my MoBo, because it's conflicting with existing PATA/SATA controller. When used alone, this controller card works well, mixing it with existing PATA causes conflicts in my sistem, it runs slower.

Other Thoughts: I have a Gigabyte G41M-ES2L (Ver 1.1) MoBo

5 out of 5 eggsMake sure you call startech first

Pros: This card installed/recognized by my Gigabyte P35-DS3R version 2.1 motherboard.
It was recognize in Vista Ultimate 32bit version without having to install drivers on my Gigabyte MoBo.

Cons: But the system it was purchased for the Intel Extreme DP45SG MoBo would not get bast bios post. It would just lock up the system. Note the mobo also did not like a functioning Linksys PCI wireless g card version 2.

Other Thoughts: Note the mobo also did not like a functioning Linksys PCI wireless g card version 2.
I call Intel on the problem and they said it was the cards fault not there's.
StarTech was very helpful on the phone in locating the one card that should be compatible with the "Extreme Finicky" MoBo by point the finger Intel.
So if you are trying to hang onto those IDE drives/CD/DVD-Devices then I would call the manufacture of these cards first to find a compatible card with the system you have or plan to have to relieve your self of double work and time delays.
Newegg is great as always and quickly sent an RMA for this product. They are always on top.
I hope this review helps others.
