5 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: No problems with Windows 7. Works for boot up. Easy RAID configuration and OS install.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Installed in Core 2 duo LGA 775 with Gigabyte GA-P31-ES3G MB. MB does not have built-in RAID so got the Startech card and installed Win 7 Professional with no snags at all. It has been running for about a month now. Be sure to install the correct driver (i.e. read the instructions). I bought two more to keep around.

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad!

Pros: Windows rates my ssd as 7.9 now with this card, 7.6 with Sata II. Cheap and works without any hiccups.

Cons: I do agree with another writer here, don't expect to have your Sata clips to clip. But still works without clicking. This was not enough to drop egg.

1 out of 5 eggsCompatibility issue and not matching the own specification of the vendor

Pros: Ultimately I didn't manage to make this controller card work with ZFS Nas server.

Cons: According to the specification of StartTech, this SATA controller card is supposed to use the chipset JMicron JMB366. JMicron is advertising this chipset as supporting AHCI .
First disappointment, the HBA received was using the old chipset JMB362. StartTech support team answered the box was probably seating of a shelf for a while.
Second disappointment, the BIOS setting of the HBA does not support AHCI actually.
Third disappointment, JMicron is advertising the series JMB36x as supporting a wild range of OS (Solaris, FreeBSD, RedHat, MacOS), but it does not.
Fourth dispapointment, it's not possible to boot on a drive connected to this HBA.
Conclusion, I lost hours testing different OS and configuration, exchanging emails with StarTech and JMicron support team.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: Relatively inexpensive way to add two internal SATA ports.

Cons: The SATA connectors have no latching hooks, so don't bother to use locking SATA cables. I have an SSD that shows 230MB/Sec reads using the motherboard SATA, but only 133MB/Sec with this card.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Bootable SATA Card

Pros: Cheap, bootable, simple to setup, and fast. Used this on a clients machine where the onboard sata controller had died. It boot without any special setup and the motherboard sees the drives like any other drive.

Cons: Had to put drivers on a flash drive during the windows setup but this seems to be normal for any expansion sata card. Just copied them off the disk.

Other Thoughts: Definitely recommended for both extra drives and boot drives.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent SATA solution

Pros: Easy to install, basically plug and play, works perfect. Install was less than 5 minutes. I am not using as a boot but it certainly was an easy and economical way to add another Hard drive and DVD to my existing system.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Fast Delivery

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: Utter piece of garbage. I've tried using a hard drive and cd-rom on this card and neither work. I've tried finding the most recent drivers from startech's site, but they crash my computer. Totally wasted my money.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat...so far

Pros: 1. Works as expected
2. Ability to run RAID 0 or 1
3. Easy to install/Upgrade
4. Nice GUI representation of RAID configuration in Windows. It could have more options, but it is very simple to understand.
5. Good card for the money.

Cons: 1. While in Windows, I don't think there is error reporting if one disk goes down. If you open the software you can tell you lost a disk, but it would be nice to have a pop-up.
If you restart, there is a RAID status right after the BOIS that will tell you if the drives/RAID are normal

Other Thoughts: - I bought this controller to build a RAID 1 with two 1.5Tb drives for personal data backup. I am not using this for startup OS. So far everything has worked great. I did do a fail over test and it took about 12 hours to re-sync drives, but for how large the drives are that is pretty good. It does tell you if the job was successful.
- I used two SAMSUNG EcoGreen F2 HD154UI 1.5TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drives.

1 out of 5 eggs50 wasted dollars

Pros: It was here in 18 hours

Cons: it crashes the machine over and over and over. Worst of all the crash messages would lead you to believe its your other sata devices or a memory issue. Mine worked for about a day and a half and then I rebooted. After another 4 days of rebooting and pulling cables, memory chips, hard drives, and changing the os I pulled the card and Poof! No more crashes.

Other Thoughts: I haven't read a really good review for any of these type of cards. I think they all must be iffey at best. I gave up and went to a usb to sata adapter.
