2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works, but not without problemsl. See below

Cons: Could not get rid of ghosting (3 fainter images to the right of main image). Changed cables, talked with mfr's tech support; not able to resolve problem. Another brand (can't tell you here!) works perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: 1. Reasonable price.
2. Timely shipment and free shipping.
3. Worked well.
4. Decent resolution.

Cons: 1. Computer screen fits outside bounds of TV screen.

Other Thoughts: I bought this box to connect my AMD A6-3650 computer (1.5 TB HD, 16 GB DDR3 1333 RAM) to a Toshiba 36-inch screen old style non-HD TV. We live in an area where only some TV channels are digital.

Resolution was decent.

The TV captures part of the computer screen. The taskbar is missing. I have been able to work around that problem by not using maximized browser settings and using the Windows Start key with the mouse.

Although this unit wasn't the cheapest, it appeared to have better ratings for an acceptable price than the low priced devices.

Audio, of course, is not handled by this device. I just had to find one of my cords with the small audio plug on one end and the typical speaker (red and white) plugs. Also, the TV volume had to be jacked up higher than normal because the computer sound output signal is a lower volume sound signal than a VCR, DVD, ROKU, or TV device.

I use this as 1 of 6 inputs to the TV...Pretty neat and flexible.

5 out of 5 eggsFor a Laptop to a big screen non hdmi TV

Pros: Parents were able to install it themselves. They're old. They don't know how to text on their phones. But they were able to make it work, and love it. Happy parents = happy me.

Cons: expensive for a dying technology. oh well.

Other Thoughts: It might be good to go expensive because the cheap ones I hear suck, too much signal attenuation/loss... This one apparently does a good job, good picture. I haven't seen it myself, but I asked my parents, they say the picture is great.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Plug it in . . . it works . . . Forget about it. I have these things running in a school. They just work well.

Cons: They seem a little pricey.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing picture quality!

Pros: Stable picture output. Incredible picture quality.

Cons: Maybe the price.

Other Thoughts: Used on an old analog television. It was the best quality picture I've ever viewed on that TV! I was really impressed. Only one issue is that if you use your television as a computer monitor and try to read text, the text is very tiny (though crisp) and can be hard to read. Lowering the display resolution on the PC helps. I haven't tried changing the font size either yet. Overall very happy and impressed with this converter!

1 out of 5 eggsMissing something?

Pros: Converts VGA analog to digital

Cons: I had to RMA the first unit on the recomendation of Startech's tech support. An acceptable resolution could not be achieved where text was ledgible. I even replaced my S-video and VGA cables. After waiting 8 days for Newegg's RMA to finally deliver a replacement unit, there are still isssues with achieving a resolution that even comes close to the reviews that I read online for the Startech High Resolution VGA2VID interface.
I must run a 800x600 resolution on my laptop (GeForce video) with the font size increased to 125% and then duplicate the display with N-Vidia Control Panel on the external display to achieve readable text. If I attempt to maintain a higher resolution on my laptop, I cannot obtain an acceptable external display.

Other Thoughts: Had I not read such good reviews for the Startech High Resolution VGA2VID Interface, I may have been a little more satisfied with with the results (800x600) that I achieved.
Minus 3 eggs for Startech. Newegg cracked 1 egg on this RMA for a defective product.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: It works better than I hoped. The screen looks great, no shaking and clear. I've only tried one resolution, the 1600x1200. I couldn't be happier with the product. And as always, it's a pleasure doing buisiness with newegg.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Converter

Pros: This image looks just as good as the composite image directly from my dvd player or directv system. I'm extremely happy with this product.

Cons: The very small text on the screen has some contrast issues but resonable sized text is perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat VGA to S-Video converter

Pros: This the solution for converting any VGA out to a S-Video in or RCA video in . Works very well for HDTV. Beautiful HDTV picture and I can even read the writing on the screen! I can even use it in any country as it comes with outlet adapters and NTSC/PAL switch. It can also overscan or underscan. It is a simple plug and play and keeps the setup there. Well worth the $$. It was this or buying a new 40" HDTV. Now I can view internet films directly on my old school HDTV with HD quality 1080!

Cons: Price as it will soon become obsolete with modern displays with HDMI and digital outputs.

Other Thoughts: Works well even with a dual screen output using the Nvidia Control Panel. This little box permits your TV to be recognized. Image comes out even better than with the S-Video out on a GTX-260. But as I upgraded that video card to a GTX-470 and my HDTV does not support a HDMI input this was the solution and it works flawlessly.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent unit and great value

Pros: I have a background in TV/VCR repair, and do occasionally do volunteer A/V projects at churches from time to time. They typically are on a tight budget so studio quaiity isn't affordable. I have used two other brands of converters, and neither came close to the quality of this one. I just got two, and am extreemly pleased. Here is how I would break down the different qualities:
Color: outstanding and it is right on out of the box. Other brands require adjusting, and when they loose power, need re adjusted. This doesn't have any adjustements because it doesn't need it!
Resolution: Very good - As good as you could expect going from VGA to lower resolution composite. Pictures are very good, and text is sharp when in presentation size fonts.
Other: Turns on automatically when power comes into it. This is helpful if you have a master power shut off for the whole a/v system - you don't have to turn on each component.

Cons: Not a big issue, but i wish it had a recessed slider power switch - this one has a button style that sits on top and could accidentally be turned off by someone bumping it or setting something on it.

Other Thoughts: Great value - I would highly recommend and will use these in future projects. They are a bit more expensive than others, but well worth the price. Newegg ROCKS. Every time I order from them, they are lightning fast. I love the share wishlist feature. I put these on my wishlist, sent it to the church, and they ordered them. They arrived in a few days! Way to go Newegg!
