1 out of 5 eggsThis adapter did not work for me.

Pros: I was attracted to the price, but the adapter did not work.

Cons: This adapter did not work. I have a MacBook Pro (mid 2012) and a Dell 23" monitor. I could not get the external monitor to work, in any capacity, with this StarTech MDP2DVI adapter. It would not work in Windows 7 bootcamp, nor OSX. Everything I read online, said they had the same problem with an after-market adapter. I purchased the Apple MDP2DVI converter, replaced the StarTech Adapter, and it worked beautifully. It was obvious that this video adapter converter was the problem.

Other Thoughts: I would not purchase this adapter if you have a MacBook and you are trying to connect an external monitor. Its better to pay the $30 and get the Apple brand adapter. The Apple adapter worked immediately and beautifully.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked as avertised for a year

Pros: Did what it was suppose to do until day 369.

Cons: Bought it on 9/26/2014. 4 days after the warranty ended the problems started and now the monitor flicker all the time. Looks like I'll need to replace it.It' d be nice to get more than a year out of an adapter.

5 out of 5 eggslife saver

Pros: plugs right in, works perfectly

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I had a 21UX Wacom Cintiq I bought in 2010 that I used in conjunction with my 2007 macbook pro. When I upgraded to the new macbook in 2013 - the converter from apple for some reason had one extra pin in it? So it didn't fit. This little device fixed my problem!

1 out of 5 eggsMax Resolution 1280x800

Pros: Lightweight adapter

Cons: Unable to produce a resolution of 1920x1200. Max resolution on a Single-Link and Dual-Link DVI cable is 1400x900 @ 51Hz

Other Thoughts: I was really hoping for this to work, as I'm okay with not having the full 2560x1600 resolution, using an active adapter, and settling for 1920x1200. However, this does not work as expected. Defective? I certainly hope so.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Eric,

We appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback on the MDP2DVI adapter, and we are sorry that unit has not performed for you as expected.

This adapter should be capable of producing a resolution of 1900x1200, if both the output and display devices support it. After you spoke with our Technical Advisor team, were you able to reproduce the resolution issues on another system? This will be the best troubleshooting step to determine if there is a configuration issue or the adapter is faulty. Another step you can try, if another system is unavailable, is to check with your video card manufacturer to ensure that all video drivers are up to date. This can help because the MDP2DVI is a passive adapter and relies on the video card to function correctly.

Quality and customer satisfaction are very important at StarTech.com. If it is determined that the adapter is faulty we will certainly replace your unit under warranty, at no additional cost to you.

Please do contact us directly, referencing case #357-190216, and we will be more than happy to assist you further.

Thank you,

2 out of 5 eggsvery sporatic

Pros: allows me to go from thunderbolt port on iMac to DVI monitor

Cons: on, off, on, off, wiggle wire, off, on, off, on. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes I want to throw it in the trash. It's very inconsistent and not stable at all. I'm constantly screwing with it to get the signal back on the monitor

5 out of 5 eggsFour monitors!

Pros: This little adapter did exactly what I wanted. Other than that, I don't really know what else to say.

Cons: The thunderbolt end of the adapter feels really loose when plugged into my graphics card, but it could be this or the card.

Other Thoughts: A note for people looking to take advantage of the thunderbolt port on their graphics card who already have 3 monitors in surround: this WILL work with another monitor. Unless the thunderbolt monitor is going to be the ones in the surround setup, a passive adapter will work just fine.

3 out of 5 eggsDoes NOT work for Multi-monitor support

Pros: Does work for output to DVI through a mini-display port

Cons: This is a PASSIVE converter denoted only by the lack of the word "active" in its description, which means it cannot be used for output to a third (or more monitors).

Other Thoughts: At the very least the difference should be made more obvious as neither the video card manufacturer (XFX), the adapter manufacturer, nor New Egg brought to my attention the limitations of using a passive converter.
