5 out of 5 eggsWorks Very Well for me

This review is from: StarTech 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Model PEXSAT32

Pros: The card I have works amazingly well. It has taken a
Core Duo 2 setup and make it just about as fast as my Sandy Bridge setup. Very pleased with this card. The card has its own drivers that are hard wired into the card? I tried to install drivers but mine does not seem to need them and the instructions said additional drivers were not needed.

Cons: None that I have had to date and this is over a years time.

Other Thoughts: I am using this as a straight sata 6 connection no raid setup.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work as Advertised

This review is from: StarTech 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Model PEXSAT32

Pros: None

Cons: Product says it will work with PCI Express 2.0 and does not need software for Windows7 - Wrong. After removing and inserting the card in the computer 18 times. Changing every setting in the world. The card is still slower than my on board SATA II. Startech speed max I could obtain: sq Read 188/ seq write 134; Random Read 34954/ Random write 21635 --- SATA II 276/264; 42354/34302

Other Thoughts: RMA this one, ordered another. Let you know the outcome of the new card.

4 out of 5 eggsnot easy install win7 no problems

This review is from: StarTech 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Model PEXSAT32

Pros: compact pci-e sata 6gbps

Cons: drivers are a challenge and it takes expert level knowledge to pull off a working system

Other Thoughts: if you are not an expert then find one to help you install this. if you now what you are doing it works and it works well BUT this will drive you crazy if you are an arm chair expert. being in the same room with a pc does not qualify you to install this.

1 out of 5 eggsW28R2 or WIN7 64bit

This review is from: StarTech 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Model PEXSAT32

Pros: Cons out weight the pros...

Cons: Listed as Windows 2008 R2 compatible but drivers from CD or even lastest drivers from Startech web will not work on fresh installs. Tried Win 7 64bit install and failed. Tried single and Raid configurations. I've sent a message to the Startech support but I've not heard back at this time.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your time using this controller for your primary controller.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a piece of garbage!!!

This review is from: StarTech 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Model PEXSAT32

Pros: Comes in an attractive box

Cons: Installed in an MSI 890GXM-G65 board. Sees drive at startup but disconnects it while transferring files and drive disappears. Totally worthless piece of garbage. The only thin as worthless is their tech support.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy a StarTech product again.

1 out of 5 eggsMight work in another MB

This review is from: StarTech 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Model PEXSAT32

Pros: sata ver.3

Cons: won't work with MSI motherboard 890FXA-GD70.

Other Thoughts: needed some extra sata ports for my media server. tried several different MB slots but could only get one port to work. finally gave up and bought a 4 port Vantec PCI card which worked fine (not sata 3, however).

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: StarTech 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Model PEXSAT32

Pros: sata 3

Cons: doesn't work with msi 890fxa-gd70 motherboard. several other reviewers have had the same experience. the addin card bios recognized the attached hd's but win7 64 bit only saw 1 drive. had to order a PCI sata card to get the extra sata ports.

Other Thoughts: This card will make an interesting paperweight.

1 out of 5 eggsBlue Screens with Windows Server 2008

This review is from: StarTech 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Model PEXSAT32

Pros: Uh...it's small.

Cons: Blue screen error on shutdown in a Dell T110 server running Windows Server 2008 64-bit. ("Hardware malfunction...System halted.") Ridiculous. The product claims to be compatible with Windows Server 2008. Not so. Definitely not ready for prime time.

Other Thoughts: The drivers seemed to install ok, and the card was visible in Device Manager. But then the server blue-screen when shut down. (Happened every time.) Had to remove the card, and the server was fine again. Too bad, because I really need another SATA port in the T110.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple

This review is from: StarTech 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Model PEXSAT32

Pros: Simple to install. Fits snugly above my HD5770.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Now I have two Crucial 64GB C300 SSDs running. One for Windows 7 and the other for Adobe CS5 Suite. Hopefully we'll see TRIM support for RAID sometime soon, so that I can set these up in RAID 0.
