5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy installation
Priced cheap for the number of extra plug in

Cons: Wish they made it as USB 3.0

Other Thoughts: Bought it as an extra internal USB plug and works fine, was very easy to install. Worked fine right after installing didn't need any special drive installation or what ever, just plug in play...

2 out of 5 eggsBad Karma !

Pros: Lots of Ports.

Cons: These cards are flakey and tend to have connection issues. I have 5 Star Tech Cards including this particular one and all 5 have failed in under 1 yr. I seems you really do "get what you pay for."

Other Thoughts: I would recommend paying a little more for a dependable brand.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and we are sorry to hear about the trouble you have had with the PCIUSB7 cards.

If you have not already done so, please do contact us directly so we can help you with troubleshooting. There may be other factors contributing to the connection issues and failures that you are experiencing.

There are a few things that you can try as well. Please try reseating the PCIUSB7 USB Card Adapter in the PCI slot, or try it in another PCI slot and verify performance there. If available, try the PCIUSB7 Card Adapter in another PC as well to see if results vary. These steps will help to determine if the PCIUSB7 Card Adapter is correctly connected to the computer, as well as rule out any potential hardware conflicts.

When contacting us directly please reference case #303-202710. We will be more than happy to assist you with any troubleshooting and if necessary, replace your units under warranty.

Thank you,

1 out of 5 eggsBe careful

Pros: Specs sound good

Cons: This is a PCI board only. That means that if you do not have the proper connector available on your mobo, this card will not fit. This is the problem I experienced. Shame on me for not noticing; shame on Newegg for not prominently pointing this out. Anyone want to buy this useless board from me cheap?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card, plug-and-play on Linux

Pros: Good price, lots of ports, including an internal USB connector and header (which is what I really needed). The longest part of the entire installation process was finding a screw to hold the card in and dropping it several times into my case. :) Up and running in no-time on Linux Mint 17.

Cons: Only nit I can think of is that the header points down when I put the card in my case, and I put it in the bottom slot, so it took a little bit of effort to connect the front panel to the card. Whooptie doo.

Other Thoughts: Needed this card after the USB on my mobo decided to just stop one day, and this card had the header connector I needed for my front panel. Works immediately with Linux Mint 17, now I am back up and running with USB.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Add-on Card for expanding USB 2.0

Pros: - 7 ports to expand USB 2.0 connections (4 external, 1 internal and 2 USB header connections)
- Perfect fit in PCI slot (for aging PC's)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I purchased this PCI card because I had a 3.5" external bay media card reader that needed to connect to a USB header. I did not have any extra USB header connections on the motherboard and this worked out perfectly. This is a great add-on to an old computer that needs more USB 2.0 connections.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: I connected a wireless mouse, LED back-lit keyboard, DAW USB interface, and DAW USB audio interface, no problems.

Cons: No cons really, just a short USB cable.

Other Thoughts: USB cable could be a little longer, not a big deal though.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat,inexpensive product

Pros: Installed card on Compaqs6104nx which is now running Ubuntu 11.10. Verified with Startech customer service that card was natively supported. Works as promised. Strongly advise anyone who is running any version of Linux to verify compatibility with manufacturer. Had to return card from Kuotech which claimed compatibility but card would not install. Extremely pleased with how Newegg processed RMA and expedited shipment of this card.

Cons: Absolutely none.

Other Thoughts: This P.C. Is a reclamation project. I am a Mac person. Enjoy playing with Linux now. If you have an older P.C. Try playing with Linux. Many different flavors. Installed Asus DVD and USb wireless adaptor. No problem with connecting to Apple base station. And Newegg is very pleasant shopping experience
