5 out of 5 eggsvery nice little adapter

Pros: I purchased a PCIe x1 TV tuner card. I have a micro ATX mobo and the PCIe x1 slot just happens to line up with the RAM chips, which only allowed 5.5" of space for a PCIe card. Unfortunately, the TV tuner card was well over 5.5" so it did not clear the RAM chips. The TV tuner works on x1 or x16 slots, but I didn't have a spare of either, so rather than having to buy a new TV tuner or worse, having to switch the mobo, I decided to use this adapter. This adapter is for x1 to x16, but since the TV tuner also works on a x16 slot, I didn't see why it wouldn't work with this adapter. The adapter cleared the RAM chips at 5" and I was able to use a low profile bracket, which came with the TV tuner. It worked perfectly. Saved a ton of money and a lot of trouble by using this card.

Cons: When placed into the PCIe slot, the adapter is slightly loose because there's nothing locking it into place. However, this is easily overcome by placing a PCIe card into the adapter and screwing it into the chassis.

Other Thoughts: The packaging and StarTech's website both stated that the warranty is Lifetime, not 1 year, as stated on NewEgg.

5 out of 5 eggsCool thing

Pros: Great adapter. It works. I needed it for a Dell XPS 9000 which has only one PCIex16 slot while the rest are 1s and 4s for a 3 screen setup.

Cons: Not a cons really. I do think though they need a way to make it a bit more secure in the socket. Maybe include a few brackets. You can use the half height brackets that came with your card but you know there will be some space showing. Probably just the the Dell 9000 case is designed but still some universal way to make it more secure.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Allows the use of a low profile PCIe-16x card in a standard-height chassis with a free PCIe-1x slot.

Cons: There is an open gap at the bottom of the bracket that would be filled with a full-height bracket.

Other Thoughts: I was skeptical of this device, but it did work to adapt an HIS 6450 PCIe-16x card to the PCIe-1x slot of an old Dell Dimension 3100. The card is working properly, as verified by playing back a Blu-ray disc at only 35% CPU utilization.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: Ordered this thing as my mobo, a Supermicro H8DME2 has only an Ati ES1000 chip that under Win7 has no option to access the brightness or any additional display parameters. I have a low profile radeon 4550 with DMS 59 connector, plugged the slot extender, plugged the videocard, it was detected by the mobo from the first boot. I am impressed.

Cons: none as of yet

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it's supposed to

Pros: Does what it's made for. Used it to put a low-profile video card (made for x16 slot) into an x1 slot on my motherboard, since I did not have another x16 slot (I'm using two video cards in this configuration for triple monitors). Did not have any trouble detecting the card, and aside from the obvious bandwidth limitation of the x1 slot, there are no issues.

Cons: Outrageously expensive for such a simple card, but it beats buying a new motherboard for a second x16 slot.

Other Thoughts: Like I said, does what it's supposed to. Meant for low-profile x16 cards, you may need to buy a separate low-profile bracket if the card you're using did not come with one.
