3 out of 5 eggsI want to admire displayport, but mileage varies

This review is from: StarTech MDP2DPMM3 3 ft Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Adapter Cable M/M - DisplayPort 4k with HBR2 support - 3 feet Mini DP to DP Cable

Pros: Product arrived as advertised

Cons: I have no way of testing whether this is capable of 60hz at 4k resolution. It did not display any resolution on my AMH A399U with my Radeon 7950 card which has two minidisplayport outputs which have worked before when plugged in several smaller monitors in Eyefinity. Displayport 1.2 was released in 2012 when there were barely any 4k monitors out outside of the enterprise sector. Either AMD did not fully support their 7900 series graphics cards or displayport support on monitors has been iffy. I can't single out a graphics manufacturer nor the cable maker nor the monitor, because they all advertise to work and people have claimed to get it to work. I have sought to find something that is decent at twice the bandwidth of hdmi 1.4 and I'm hesitant to wait for hdmi 2.0 because this is displayport 1.2's time to shine. Apparently there isn't enough interest in the standard to show which devices and combination of cables and cards actually work. 28 guage cables apparently are better than 32 guage, yet this is 3 foot, and I've only found 28 guage in 6ft variety. My graphics card came with a displayport to mini displayport adapter, and I would have to spend another $8-10 to test whether it works with a decent 28 guage DP-DP. My monitor has limited or worse, inconsistent support and doesn't work with all 1.2 displayport cables, or there's unlisted specifications that makes me feel patronized. If TV manufactures could include displayport, maybe there would be more support.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with my Mac mini and LG27EA83

This review is from: StarTech MDP2DPMM3 3 ft Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Adapter Cable M/M - DisplayPort 4k with HBR2 support - 3 feet Mini DP to DP Cable

Pros: I have an LG 27EA83 pro monitor (27", 2560x1440). Got a new Mac mini and bought this cable to hook the Mac up to the monitor. Works great from the start (at least so far).

I was reading that some people have issues with various monitors that when the Mac goes to sleep and when it wakes up, the monitor doesn't turn on. Well, in my case using this monitor it works fine. Whether I set the monitor to turn off after X minutes, or put the Mac to sleep and then wake, the monitor comes back just fine.

Mini DisplayPort (Mac) to DisplayPort (monitor) connection.
OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

This review is from: StarTech MDP2DPMM3 3 ft Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Adapter Cable M/M - DisplayPort 4k with HBR2 support - 3 feet Mini DP to DP Cable

Pros: Works fine, connectors seem decent, nice short length reduces cable clutter.

Cons: Not available in more colors.

Other Thoughts: I should have bought two right away, I could have replaced the bulky DVI cable on my other monitor. Now I have to wait another week.

This review is from: StarTech MDP2DPMM3 3 ft Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Adapter Cable M/M - DisplayPort 4k with HBR2 support - 3 feet Mini DP to DP Cable

Pros: Works fine on my Macbook Air connecting to Dell 30" LCD at 2560x1600. I've tried it on the MB Air running both OS X Lion and Ubuntu 11.10 and both work great.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great powering 30" Dell Ultrasharp

This review is from: StarTech MDP2DPMM3 3 ft Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Adapter Cable M/M - DisplayPort 4k with HBR2 support - 3 feet Mini DP to DP Cable

Pros: Works great for powering my 30" Dell monitor from my Macbook pro. Better than original adaptor that I had which required a bulky adapter be plugged directly into the macbook and partialy blocked other ports. This one is sleek & slim.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I did not know this, but DisplayPort cables also support audio (like HDMI). So now when I plug my displayport into my monitor the speakers attached to my monitor out[put the sound. Nice bonus.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not work properly with NEC PA271W

This review is from: StarTech MDP2DPMM3 3 ft Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Adapter Cable M/M - DisplayPort 4k with HBR2 support - 3 feet Mini DP to DP Cable

Pros: Cheap.
Kind of works.

Cons: If I turn off the monitor I cannot turn it back on.
This is a known problem with DisplayPort cables, see http://www.necdisplay.com/cms/documents/UserManuals/DisplayPort_Notice.pdf
