4 out of 5 eggsNice adapter that is pricey

Pros: If you need the ability to connect a Centronics parallel printer to your computer AND your motherboard has an internal parallel port connection then this adapter will give you what you need. The plug on the ribbon cable is keyed so that it is impossible to plug it in wrong making it a simple task to plug in the cable.

Cons: Parallel printers are becoming more and more scarce so the parallel port is becoming obsolete. I suspect that is why this component justifies it's high price. I feel like it is a bit pricey, but I needed it. After buying this item I discovered a usb to Centronics cable that is 1/4 the the cost of this item.

Other Thoughts: There was a combination (Serial and Parallel) plate available from NewEgg that was less expensive but it shipped from China and would take some 15 days to get here. StarTech is a reputable company that makes decent accessories that are shipped from the US which I saw as a plus. Since I was building a new computer and the motherboard had the DB25 connector I decided to go ahead and equip the machine with the parallel port.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Works like it should. Not much else to say.

Cons: No indications as to which way to plug it in. Have to guess, or look up pin configuration in your motherboard manual.

Other Thoughts: Own 7 of them (each in a different computer), all used with ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM R2.0 motherboards and running Windows XP.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: It works, It shipped free.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Needed a parallel port for a rebuild of an older PC of mine for a friend. He needed a parallel port to hook-up his older, but still supported HP printer. None on the board, but it had a header, so this cable filled the bill nicely. No instructions with it, but your MB guide should have the pin-outs for the header and pin 1 is marked on the cable. so you should have no problem if you know what you are doing.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works.

Pros: It works as advertised. Used it to add a Parallel port to a PC for an older UPS label printer.

Cons: This almost isn't worth mentioning, but for the last decade or so most PCs have had the parallel port color-coded purple. This adapter is blue however, so it looks more like a 25pin female serial port. I can envision confused users plugging the wrong thing into it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Purchase

Pros: For those tech savvy people that have upgraded their boards only to find it lacking a parallel port plug-in this is the ticket. Most boards that do not have the external parallel port available do have a header for THIS ADAPTER, and it works like a charm - I love it,. Thanks to the inventor !

Cons: If you are not familiar with ho ribbon cables connect then more information should be provided for those users or damage to the main-board could be a danger.

4 out of 5 eggsPrinter Port Header Adapter

Pros: What can I say? It's an ancient print port adapter for $7 + $2 shipping.

Cons: Wish a few directions were written on the box on the way to put it into the motherboard, and the ribbon cable is REALLY ugly in a modern system, fyi.

Other Thoughts: Other than that, it works.

5 out of 5 eggsIts an IBM standard

Pros: There is nothing to rate Its a standard 25 Pin parallel port
cable that connects to the 26 pin header of all motherboards that provide it.

This cable design and standard goes all the way back to the XT computers.

The operating system has nothing to do with it.

All windows /dos operating systems support LPT1 addressing.

This justs connects the motherboad header to a standard DB25 pin female port to install to the computer case
when motherboards do not provide a built in DB25 connector

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Windows 7

Pros: Forgot to mention in my last review. I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit) and this product works fine for me.

Cons: I wish Newegg let us edit our reviews.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with ASUS motherboard

Pros: Long cable to reach across motherboard.
Low price.
Doesn't take up an expansion slot.
I get to keep my nice hp laser printer.

Cons: These cons are minor.

There is no physical indicator of which way around it is supposed to connect to the motherboard. I installed it backwards at first. When my printer didn't work I tried it the other way around, and it worked fine.

The ribbon cable is ugly, but could probably be routed underneath the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: My motherboard is an ASUS P8H67-M LX. I'm sure it would work with any ASUS mobo with a "26-1" (IDC25) LPT header.

3 out of 5 eggsIncompatible

Pros: Seems to work, but not for my system. So I only took two eggs off.

Cons: Incompatibility issues for Windows 7 which is unfortunate. But its not Startech's fault necessarily.

Other Thoughts: Buy this only if USB is not an option and you DON'T run Windows 7/ Vista
