2 out of 5 eggsWon't work with a VM

Pros: I really want to love this product. It really seems one of a kind. It all most works as a remote video card. No hardware on the computer end. Yes the software/driver is a bit clunky, but it does the job. I was able to get a 3rd monitor and extend my desktop with very little issues. But...

Cons: The reason I bought this was to have a physical monitor "attached" to a virtual machine I'm running. I have VMware ESXi bare-metal hypervisor running a VM that I want a monitor/TV on. This was going to be a great solution because every other product I have looked at wants to take a HDMI signal then transport it over the network. I guess that's fine but if you don't have a signal to start with then obliviously there is a problem. I was even going to be able to get a keyboard/mouse/USB flash drive to attach to the VM with one device with audio on HDMI. H0ly Grail for me, because now I would be able to vMotion/HA the VM since all "connections" were virtualized. I could get the driver to install and connect, but no video came out. I chatted with tech support and the guy was nice an all, but "they weren't trained on using it with a VM and wasn't supported", so he couldn't help. I tried it with both a Win7 & Win10 VM, no go.

Other Thoughts: I am just so sad. I was going to get like 10 of these. Please, please someone make this work with a VM. So sad. 8(

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: The device works well enough for copying a PC video output to an HD TV using TCP/IP & converting it to HDMI. It uses DHCP.

Cons: The device pretty much requires a cable TCP/IP connection for movie-type video from the PC to the TV. Wireless movies are jerky with a wireless connection. Still pictures, e.g. PowerPoints, work ok with wireless.

Other Thoughts: I did not attempt to set up the audio so I have no comment on the audio other than to say I do not see how to set up audio over TCP/IP. The PC requires a software install that essentially emulates a two-monitor PC even if the PC actually has one physical monitor. The second, emulated monitor becomes the output to the TV. A low-end PC can drive the PC software ok.
