The StarTech MNHD2VGAE Adapter converts Mini HDMI signals into VGA-format video, so you can connect a Mini HDMI source – like a tablet, camera, or ultrabook – to a VGA monitor. It supports output resolutions up to full 1080p, for uncompromised text and graphics quality whether in presentations, documents, or video. The compact design, with no need for external power source, allows great convenience for everyday use and transport.
Basic adapter - some caveats
This review is from: StarTech MNHD2VGAE Mini HDMI to VGA Adapter Converter for Digital Still Camera / Video Camera - 1920x1200
Pros: Does what it is supposed to as far as I know. I used it for the mini-HDMI out on my Lenovo tablet.
Cons: No conversion is done. Your projector or monitor has to support the appropriate (16:9) video mode that your device will produce. I ended up having one projector that does work and an older one that doesn't.
Other Thoughts: My assumption is that the more expensive converters (rather than an adapter) will actually change the video mode, though I don't have one to test. This device just generates a VGA signal equivalent to the HDMI out and your output device (monitor, projector) has to support the right video mode, which may also be device-dependent. I took off an egg because this may not be what you need depending on your situation. But it may.
