Convert an HDMI® video signal to VGA, with discrete audio output. The HD2VGAA HDMI® to VGA Adapter Cable enables you to connect an HDMI output device, such as a laptop video output or digital media extender, to a VGA display device (monitor, projector) by converting the HDMI video signal from the output device into a VGA output and separate two-channel analog audio. The HDMI-to-VGA adapter is intended for displaying user-generated content, such as presentations, documents, and work sheets, onto a VGA projector or monitor. The adapter can also extend your computer's desktop to double your workspace and increase productivity.
The versatile converter supports resolutions including high definition 1080p, up to 1920 x 1200, which eliminates the expense of upgrading a VGA display for the sake of compatibility. It doesn't require a separate power adapter, which saves installation time and hassle.
Backed by a two-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.
NOT an HDMI to VGA converter
This review is from: StarTech HD2VGAA HDMI to VGA Video Adapter Converter with Audio for Desktop PC/Laptop/Ultrabook - 1920x1200
Pros: Might work for SOME users under a VERY SPECIFIC set of circumstances. Be SURE to contact Startech with your EXACT device(s) to get compatibility prior to purchase.
Cons: Product does NOT perform service represented in marketing materials/on web site. Per Startech tech support : Product will NOT convert "CLEAN" HDMI (I.E. HDMI that complies with the HDMI Standard) to VGA output. Only works with a very narrow set of devices that encode "additional" info in their HDMI output. Misrepresentation is the kindest term I can think off. Although the description on both the Startech and Newegg websites clearly states “Convert an HDMI® video signal to VGA”, that is NOT what this product does. Startech’s response relies on a very precise parsing of their part numbers. The HD2VGAA part (this item), only works with HD video (which is apparently HDMI plus some additional signal information). You must purchase their HDMI2VGA part to actually perform the needed conversion of CLEAN HDMI to VGA (an item costing 3 times as much). That would be fine if they did NOT represent their part HD2VGAA as performing this conversion in their literature. Again, misrepresentation is the kindest term I can think of for this item.
Other Thoughts: There are numerous products in this category / price point all CLAIMING to do HDMI to VGA conversion. They are probably all based on the same chipset and exhibit similar problems. I guess you get what you pay for.
