5 out of 5 eggsUSB3.0 for legacy systems

Pros: It is a low-profile PCI card so it can fit into just about any system old or new, assuming an appropriate PCI slot is available of course. Added some functional USB3 speed to my PC, since my motherboard's onboard USB3.0 ports are too close to adjacent USB2.0 ports and most USB3.0 flash drives and such will not squeeze into them.

Cons: Not really a con, but as others have stated, while this does add USB3.0 capability to a PCI-slot on any compatible motherboard, reality is that it will be bandwidth limited by the PCI bus, though it should still be faster than USB2.0.

Other Thoughts: I originally bought this to add USB3.0 to an older Shuttle XPC that did not have USB3.0 at all, primarily as I wanted to use a USB3.0 wifi-ac adapter. Unfortunately while the card was recognized by the Shuttle and drivers installed fine, plugging any device into the ports whether USB2.0 or USB3.0, requiring power or not power, with the SATA power plugged in or not, the Shuttle XPC hard-locked. Only fix was to cold boot the PC. Never could get the card working on that PC.

I do have another PC that this card works just fine in, and since the motherboard's onboard USB3.0 back-panel ports are too close to adjacent USB2.0 ports on both sides, some USB3.0 cables or devices will not fit. So this card installed into an available PCI slot and solved that problem. So the card works perfectly in my older ASRock motherboard no problem at all.

No need to dock an egg off the rating because of the Shuttle XPC issue, I've had similar compatibility issues with Shuttles in the past which always seem to be spotty (they even have more modern XPC's where they state bluntly that only a graphics card can go in the PCIe x16 slot, that is just lazy BIOS programming in my opinion).

5 out of 5 eggsVery good!

Pros: Gives you an extra speed boost to your USB 3.0-ready peripherals.

Cons: Not true USB 3.0 speeds due to the limited bandwidth of PCI-66, especially if it is sharing the PIC-66 bus with other cards.

Other Thoughts: This is like any other attempt to adapt new technology to old systems. It's never truly as good as the new technology on a new system, but it's a MAJOR upgrade for the old system, nonetheless.

Highly recommended for older machines.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Addition to aging server

Pros: Great addition to my aging DELL PowerEdge 2850 server. I added so that my new SAMSUNG D3 Station 4TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STSHX-D401TDB Black would run at USB 3.0 speeds. They were a great combination. SUPER FAST backups of the server now.

Cons: Nothing

1 out of 5 eggsUnknown

Pros: Seems like a nicely built card, not flimsy like the cheaper cards. Back bracket was extra stiff and the included half-height card a nice touch.

Cons: Plugged the card in my Asus P8H61-M LE/CSM motherboard and the board would not come alive after power applied. Took the card out and the machine booted as usual, plugged the card back in and the machine would not POST, monitors remaining in sleep. I can't say it was the card causing this but something was not happy with that card installed.

Other Thoughts: Wish it would have worked.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked great!

Pros: Installed in older HP server to allow connection of USB 3 external drive. Computer would not boot when in 1st slot, but booted fine in 3rd slot. Driver installed from CD with no problems, and external drive worked well and fast.

Cons: None
