5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, simple and reliable

Pros: It hasn't had any problems in about 1 year of always-on use.
Rosewill always seems to deliver exceptional value.

Cons: There was some initial confusion about drivers and getting it recognized by Windows 7, but that was solved before long. In this case the driver on the CD worked rather than the newer, downloadable drivers.

Other Thoughts: It was the perfect upgrade for an older PC that developed a problem with the on-board USB 2.0 controller.
Of course the motherboard BIOS doesn't allow for booting from USB devices through an add-on like this.
Having a USB 3 interface doesn't magically make a drive any faster, and the USB 3 flash drives I've tested it with weren't designed for a high enough bandwidth to test the maximum transfer speed of this card, but because it uses a common NEC/Renesas controller chip it's likely that the PCIe x1 slot would be the limiting factor there.

1 out of 5 eggsNot recognized on either of 2 systems

Pros: Good price. Good specs

Cons: Did not work.

Other Thoughts: Not recognized by windows. Tried on 2 different systems - Win 8.1 and Win 10. Neither would find the card. Driver CD installation not recognized. Wasted 2 hours finding and installing newer drivers with no difference. Power was supplied to the USB 3 device, but windows saw neither the device nor the USB card.

Returned for a refund. Will try another brand.

1 out of 5 eggsDriver issues with OS and system

Pros: Unknown: Can't get it to work.

Cons: Rosewill. The card arrived, and I've tried to get it to work on multiple systems. The drivers may or may not successfully install (depending on the version of the driver); however as Rosewill uses an "install" program (rather than allowing the OS in pick an install location) this presents problems. One driver install package had an error message stating that it needed run as administrator. (It was installed from administrator account, run as administrator). If you get a later version of the install, it includes a update for the bios on the card. HOWEVER: There is no read-me as what the user is to do. (Chicken and egg problem: does the driver install first or the bios update?) Rosewill is of NO help. I sent them an email for support; received an automated response (one week ago) and no followup. Automated response: "Our estimated response time is currently 1-2 business".

Other Thoughts: In short: Look for a system compatibility list (there is none) or someone that has already stated that "it works on system X with operating system Y" before I would consider purchasing. Now I have two unused cards. As others have stated; this uses a non-standard chip-set: You are dependent on Rosewill to provide drivers THAT WILL INSTALL AND WORK for YOUR system and OS.

It would be nice if Newegg (and others) would state that they use a non-standard install for the device drivers.

1 out of 5 eggsWIn10 will not recognize

Pros: lack of USB hub causes drop out of USB3.0 drives into

Cons: but drivers , very serious problem with WIN driver for this card while WIN 7 worked quite fine. Actually no Win transition driver exists .

Other Thoughts: failure to work , so bought a Inateck PCIe card that works like charm including the USB3 hub.

4 out of 5 eggsAveraging 105MB/S Transferring Movies

Pros: Needing more space for my movies, I decided to upgrade my HP 8000 Elite sff, Intel E8400 dual core 3.0ghz, HTPC by adding this RC-505 PCIe to 3.0 USB adapter card. I also went from two 3tb Seagate Barracudas to two Toshiba 5tb X300 hard drives. C drive is a Kingston 120gb SSD with 4gb ram.

Here are my test results copying the same 10 movies. Transferring about 60gigs of data. Hope this helps you.
The following results are sustained through put. They start off higher but settled in at the rates published here.

Toshiba X300 7200 SATA III to Seagate 320gb, usb 2.0 external backup drive using the computer's USB 2.0 port = 36MB/S
X300 to Vantec eSATA external drive enclosure SATA II with a WD 2tb green drive = 99MB/S
X300 to Rosewill USB 3.0 adapter to brand new WD 2tb Passport 3.0 external drive = 105 MB/S
5tb X300 on D drive to 5tb X300 on E drive = 173 MB/S

To be fair, smaller files of 1gig size would start out transferring at 205MB/S from the x300 hard drive through the Rosewill RC-505 to the WD usb 3.0 external drive and settle down to 150MB/S by the time it was done copying.

This is what I was look for but didn't find when I was reading all the reviews so I thought I'd do some tests and publish them.

Cons: The latest firmware update on Rosewill's website dated less than 2 weeks ago didn't work. Says no controller detected or something like that. The "updated" driver did install but is old and was dated back to 8/2012. It wasn't any newer than what was on the CD

Other Thoughts: The sustained data transfer rate for my 7 year old HP Dual Core 3.0ghz computer using this RC-505 card is outperforming my Vantec SATA II eSATA enclosure barely and definitely outperforming my older Seagate 2.0 external drive.

To be fair though smaller files of 1gig size would start out transferring at 205MB/S from the x300 hd through the Rosewill RC-505 to the WD usb 3.0 external drive and settle down to 150MB/S by the time it was done copying.

2 out of 5 eggsUSB 2.0 speed only on Asus P755PD mobo

Pros: 2 more USB 2.0 ports now on my computer

Cons: No USB 3.0 speed

Other Thoughts: Would have given 1 egg but the ports do work, albeit at 2.0 speeds. Testing w/ AData 16 and 32gb usb 3.0 flash drives, but getting classic 10/mb write times. I'm on Windows 10 x64 (love the built in speed monitoring when copying back and forth to flash drives). My mobo is from late 2009, but the card should still deliver USB 3.0 spec speeds because is PCI. Oh well, not going to RMA or spend any more time on this because the card was cheap and my time is worth more than a waste of twelve bucks. Though I won't be buying anything from Rosewill anymore.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problems

Pros: No need to install a driver for Windows 10 since they are already installed. Put it in the slot last night and now the backup time on one of my hard drive has been reduced from 3 hours to 1. No problems so far.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorks! And good price.

Pros: Works great and not too expensive. Had a bad experience on a slightly cheaper card... this one works right out of the box on Windows 7 64-bit.

Cons: Only two USB ports, but if you want more, there are cards for that.

Other Thoughts: Good way to get increased speed out of my USB 3.0 external drive before I purchase a new computer with USB 3.0 built in.
