4 out of 5 eggsWorks in OS X

Pros: Works in Mac OS X 10.9 in my Mac Pro Early 2008! And it works at USB 3.0 Speed!

Cons: Need to install a driver.

Other Thoughts: Works in OS X, I installed a driver from Lacie and it works great. I did not give the card power and it still works. I assume this is because I am using a device with it's own power supply.

2 out of 5 eggsworks USB 2 drops USB 3

Pros: none really since it constantly drops USB 3 devices. Completely drops off the computer in the middle of large file transfer at USB3. On the other hand USB 2 devices work fine - just what I needed - another 2 USB 2 ports.

Cons: drops out when using USB 3 deveices

Other Thoughts: Apparently there are huge problems upgrading older USB 2 main boards to USB 3 - the tales of woe are all over the internet with many different chips, not just the NEC (Renesas) chip. It will be hit or miss as to whether your older main board will play nice with any of these USB 3 devices.

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth sending back

Pros: Cheap. Well known chip maker (despite what others seem to believe), works fine as yet another pair of USB2 ports, which I need like I need a couple more holes in my head.

Cons: Comes up as USB3 capable in both Win7x64 and several Linux environments, but always falls back to USB2 speeds when I actually plug a USB3 device in. Tried several external drives, including a brand new 4TB MyBook. Tried every driver I could find, as well as more than one firmware. Nothing mattered, it always did exactly the same thing. It's in a parts bag for now. Hopefully someday a new firmware will fix it. Could be mine is just defective, but I rather doubt it.

Other Thoughts: Renesas *IS* NEC Semiconductor for all intents and purposes. Just because YOU haven't heard of them doesn't mean they are a no-name, fly-by-night, garage operation. NEC had the first decent USB3 chip on the market and was the de facto standard for quite some time.

5 out of 5 eggsWorthwhile on older system

Pros: Works well on my aging Dell Vostro 410 system; even though it only has PCI-Express version 1.1. My external hard drive transfer speed is on par with my internal sata 2 mechanical hard drives. I was hoping for at least double the speed of usb 2.0 but was happy to see it was at least triple on average.

Cons: It my not be much of a con but my system only has sata power connectors so I needed to buy an adapter to get this to work properly. Also I noticed if I transfered too many files at once it would slow down after a while but it could be because of my external hard drive. I currently have no way of telling.

Other Thoughts: I bought this adapter so I could connect a Samsung 4tb hard drive and have some decent transfer speeds.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: Have three of these. One in an XP box and two in a Win7. All three installed without issue and work well. Extra happy by purchasing them on sale.

5 out of 5 eggsEzyPzy...works like a charm

Pros: Plugged it in and as soon as the drivers were installed, I was off to the races.
Couldn't have been easier
Rig is win7 Pro 64-bit...connected to a mediasonic pro box - 4 bay (JBOD)...(4x 3 TB hdds)
Works as advertised

Cons: Almost deducted 1/2 egg cuz of the instructions, but opted to leave it at 5.
The printed instructions said to physically install the card first, then run the software...no problem.
However the instructions on the cd label said to install the drivers first...
No big deal and par for the course re: instructions

1 out of 5 eggsNever worked

Pros: None, never worked. Can't wait to upgrade mobo for native 3.0!

Cons: It never worked when I got it. I gave up on it and just settled for native 2.0 ports for my WD 2tb backup drive. Recently tried to get this card to work again because I want to redo my entire back up (~800GB!!!), but still worthless. Thought maybe they would have released new drivers/firmware by now. Tried their drivers along with the automatic Windows Driver installation, multiple clean installs. No change.

Tried firmware update, error with "Could not find device".

Other Thoughts: EVGA x58 Triple SLi main, Windows 7 Pro 64bit
