Sling Media Digital Set-Top Box - Watch Your TV Anywhere SLINGBOX SOLO

Pros: It was great when it worked, but after a few months the audio went out on it. I called Slingbox and they had me go through a whole bunch of technical bullcrap then realized the audio input must have over heated and offered me $30 a new one....big deal for a faulty product. It still works for watching TV, but absolutely no sound.

Cons: The box seems to have overheating issues from what I have read.

Pros: While away from home I can watch live tv on my android phone. If I forgot to record a program, cn do it on my phone. LOVE THIS!!~! Only problem is I didn't buy this sooner!!!~

Cons: doesn't do dishes

Pros: I worked the first time I used it. Hard to write what is good about it - it does so bad. I think the best thing I can write is, it looks better than the first one they made.

Cons: It worked the first time I used it, the picture was so bad, I left it alone for some time, (LocationFree is far better than this) Slingbox is so time consuming to setup, must type email address or user name and password every time you use it, then wait for it to accept it. If it fails to work you must pay $30 per call to fix it, whether its their fault or yours.

After setting around for awhile I tried again, it refused to let me watch videos - its going good, it accepted my email address and password, I had access to my account where I could see things, then after I installed their addons for Internet Explorer and Firefox on another computer, it stalled, it asked for the password again, and again ... I tried password change several times, it still refused.

If you have Windows it only works on Internet Explorer and Firefox and one other, will not work with 64bit software. If you have MAC it will not work on Internet Explorer.

Other Thoughts: Cable is planning to encrypt video - maybe useless sometime later

Pros: My friend gave me this little box last Christmas, and I love it so far! I can watch my favorite TV shows (live and DVR) on my PC, Mac book, and my iPhone (SlingPlayer App required). Setup was easy and picture looks great!

Cons: Only downfall (this is not for the slingbox) is that you have to purchase an app if you want to view slingbox on a my iPhone.

Pros: When it works it is very convenient for watching tv remotely through a web browser based client, which is nice if you're using a work computer to watch on. Pretty easy to set up too.

Cons: Mine, as well as many others, went up in smoke after just 6 months of use. Literally up in smoke. Something inside melted and it smelled awful. I literally got a headache from the fumes and couldn't sleep that night even after airing out the apartment for several hours. The device wasn't even in use when it happened. It was sitting on an open shelf on my desk with nothing else around it so it's not like I caused it to overheat. I knew this was an inevitability from all of the previous reviews I had read, which is why I bought it from another store with a protection plan. I have a friend who has the Pro-HD model and his has been going strong for a couple years now and all the reviews I've read indicate that those don't have the death rates that the Solos do. If you decide to buy one of these and use it as intended please save yourself the trouble and either buy a protection plan for it, or just upgrade to the Pro-HD. The image quality on the Pro-HD is much better anyway.

Other Thoughts: Device does not down convert HD channels well AT ALL. You get extra jaggies especially on white lines like the stripes on football fields. Also, the compression they use really abuses red images and makes anything red look very blobby.
