4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works both in Windows 2000/XP and Linux (kernel version 2.6.13). Overall, it is reliable and stable in both OS. Great for to upgrade old computers to USB 2.0 and at the same time upgrade to 1 Gb NIC in addition include IEEE-1394a connectivity.

Card contains:
* NEC USB 2.0
* VIA IEEE-1394a (aka Firewire or i.Link)
* Realtek 1 Gb NIC (model 8169)
* Hint PCI-PCI Bridge

Cons: Installing the Realtek NIC in Windows 2000/XP needs to be done manually. The rest, Windows will detect and install upon boot up.

A mystery connector that looks like a floppy power connector is not documented. Is it a power connector to provide extra power for USB or IEEE-1394a?

I would prefer IEEE-1394a chip be from Texas Instruments, but VIA is ok.

Other Thoughts: May need to follow PCB traces to check if the mystery connector is a power connector.

Do not expect real 1 Gb speeds from the NIC because it sends data out on a 32-bit data bus at 33 MHz.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Quite Well

Pros: The USB, Firewire and Network ports worked using Mac OS X 10.4 without having to load any drivers off the enclosed CD. I enjoy using the Firewire connection between my Mac and PC to transfer large files since I do not have a Gigabit switch yet.

Cons: The Manual was written for Windows users and did not mention anything about Mac OS X 10.4 being "Plug 'N Play" straight out of the box. However, once I went into System Preferences and click on the Network Icon, the Mac recognized the card and it loaded the drivers.

3 out of 5 eggsNOT OS X Compatible

Pros: Firewire and Ethernet work without drivers

Cons: USB 2.0 is non-functional due to lack of drivers for the VIA chipset for OS X (10.4.8)

Other Thoughts: I could not get the USB 2.0 to work, regardless of the configuration. Drivers exist for this chipset, but they do not work reliably and devices will randomly disconnect.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst Rate

Pros: Plugged it into an available PCI slot and booted my XP machine. XP recognized this device instantly. It's working great and provides much needed 4-pin internal USB ports as well.

Cons: I couldn't find one for free...

5 out of 5 eggs

5 out of 5 eggsThe Triple Threat

Pros: Gigabit Ethernet
Firewire
USB 2.0

Cons: ?

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a Dell Dimension 4100 I'm using as a web-server (PIII 866/133/256) to have a quick way to get files on and off (USB 2.0/Firewire) and I swear the unit uploads a web page faster than the old 10/100.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card, works like a charm

Pros: This card works out of the box in Windows XP, no fuss with the drivers (I had to install the LAN drivers from the CD, though)
It works in fine a PCI 66mhz slot, which is cool, because it was the only one available left on my TYAN S2466-4M board.

USB works great too.

Cons: None that I've found so far.

Other Thoughts: I haven't tested the firewire part of the card, but I don't see why it shouldn't work.
