4 out of 5 eggsWorks great in Linux

Pros: It works without any tinkering in Ubuntu 11.10, or it's derivatives as I use Linux Mint. I would get between 20-27 MB/s on all my external drives but when I put this card in I'd get between 40-60 MB/s. Logically that was with my USB 3.0 enclosures but even with my USB 2.0 devices I get a steady 30 MB/s. Nice boost overall and I wish I had a SSD to test it out with, I'm curious if I could max a SSD out with it.

Cons: Floodlights, two of them, green, lights up the entire house. It has two LEDs that I have no idea why they're there. They aren't activity lights, and why not have blue ones? Oh well. I've had this for two holidays and the holidays, Halloween through Christmas, I do a lot of ripping and encoding to watch holiday shows on other devices so I have the computer it is in all night and it makes it hard to sleep. I'm giving up and today I'll buy some black nail polish and paint over them. I'd clip them but I have no idea if it will break it or not.

Other Thoughts: If it is going in a computer that is in your bedroom or is a HTPC then I'd look elsewhere. If not this works really well, and I can certify it for Linux(if I don't need any certification to certify devices that is). Now all mother boards come with USB 3.0 so I doubt it will sell as well but it gave my power machine USB 3.0, I built it right as USB 3.0 was coming on the scene and it was like $50 extra for USB 3.0 and I thought I could live with eSATA. I still like eSATA better but EVERYTHING is USB 3.0 now.

2 out of 5 eggsShouldn't be this difficult...

Pros: -USB 3.0 Speed.

Cons: -Randomly disconnects/dismounts the attached drive.
-Mounting bracket has a lip on it that does not play nice with the cards below it.
-Enclosed drivers not current, updated drivers not on Patriots website.

Other Thoughts: Purchased the Patriot to go along with my 1TB Western Digital USB 3.0 Hard Drive. My only free PCI-E slot is above my GeForce 260. The Patriot would not sit flush because of the lip on the mounting bracket (no idea why it's even like that). I removed my video card, put in the Patriot and attempted to replace my 260. No go. I Had to remove the mounting bracket from the Patriot, lay it on a vice and use a hammer to flatten it out. Mounted the bracket back on the Patriot, went in without a problem. Fired up my PC, installed the enclosed drivers (Windows 7 could not find any automatically), rebooted. Plugged in the Western Digital, took it a second to initialize and there it was. Everything seemed to be working fine. Till about 20 minutes later. It disconnected the drive in the middle of me copying 126GB of data, then immediately reconnected. (Does that quite often) Nothing on Patriots forums. Scoured the net, found a newer version of the USB driver. Seems to be working...
