Silverstone PCI-E to USB 3.0 Add-On Card Model SST-EC04-P

Pros: No problems so far.

Cons: None

Pros: Seems faster than the generic USB 3.0 card I replaced. Works so far.

Cons: Be sure to install the driver supplied on mini-CD. Don't allow Windows to update the driver. Card stopped working after update.

Other Thoughts: Had to remove updated driver and re-install from the CD.

Pros: I liked it at first

Cons: It worked for about 2 months.
I plugged my thumb drive into it, saw a little green spark, and that was the end of it. No drives show up under (computer). It will still power up my devices, so I'm baffled by this.

Other Thoughts: I did contact Silverstone, so maybe they will have a solution to this problem. Or maybe they will replace it? I might even get one that works for more than 2 months.

Pros: Plugs in and works. Windoze 7

Cons: None detected yet.

Pros: Now that i have confirmed it several times. I am achieving USB 3.0 speeds. I have also been using this for most of the month with PortableApps and I have seen vastly improved performance.

Cons: Still a little irritated that the mini-CD must be used to install the software and the Silverstone site does not include this option in its driver update. This is why I left it at 4 stars. If Silverstone fixed this little irritant, than I would feel very comfortable giving it a 5 Star rating. Mental note ---- Do not loose the mini-CD.

Other Thoughts: I thought I would be able to update my previous review. Oh well, I'll know for next time to hold off.

Pros: Easy to install and update, plugs right in to the SST-EC04-P I ordered, transfer speeds for USB 3.0 are impressive.
Working well so far.

Other Thoughts: As usual newegg has what I want at a good price, delivered quickly. That's why I keep coming back.

Pros: None yet.

Cons: The card does not function correctly; when trying to transfer a large file, 100gig+, from a USB 3.0 docking station, to an internal HD, the Win 7 (64bit) loses the card and then refinds the card in the middle of the transfer. This terminates the transfer. I use the same hd/docking station on another computer with a Z77 chipset that has built in USB 3.0 and it works fine. The the system that exibits the problem is a ASRock X58 Extreme with I7-920, 12gig. Everything else runs fine on it, has for 2-3 years.

Other Thoughts: I downloaded the latest firmware and drivers from Silverstone; no change. Have sent them an email. Will update if they can fix it.

Pros: Worked for 1/2 day, after that nothing.

Cons: Only worked for 1/2 day!

Other Thoughts: I guess I'm out of $32.00 because I disposed of the packaging and etc. I should have known better!

** Silverstone site makes it real easy to upload the drivers... if you need them ... including Window 8.0 (which I don't have, but you might)

** Accurate description allowed me to pick the perfect matching USB 3.0 cable extension/adapter to use for the front of my case.

I will update this once I can test 3.0, but 2.0 thumb drive did max out the spec.

Cons: The molex connection seems a little shallow. Even when using my other finger to cradle behind it, there is no satisfying stickiness to let you know the molex cable is seated.

** Downloading the drivers from Silverstone's website did not recognize the device without the use of mini-Disc first. (see other comments)

Other Thoughts: Worked awesome once I installed the mini-Disc drivers. You know how usually you can ignore the CD's on new hardware installs and go straight to website to download the latest........ well don't do that here......Windows 7 auto driver update feature won't catch this one. If using Windows 7, especially on an LGA 775 motherboard, use the mini-Disc FIRST....

Windows worked awesome after that retrieving updated drivers from the web.

Left at 4 stars due to irritation with driver installation directly from manufacture site did not work... Made it to 4 stars because the mini-Disc did work for the drivers..

Pros: Works as it should and Iwould reccomend to anyone. Drivers are easy to find on their website. This is the easiest to find/download drivers for out of all my accessory cards.

Cons: connections are way to close together. Its a tight fit but it works. -1 egg for the connection placement
