4 out of 5 eggsWorks as described

Pros: Works as described. I bought it to add SATA III ports to an older system. I ran a 240GB SSD and 1.5GB Seagate off of it directly with no issue (not using raid or hyperduo). I decided to run the two drives in a hyperduo config and windows 7 64bit flies. No issues so far

Cons: when booting to this card in hyperduo mode it addes a little time to the boot process

Other Thoughts: great for adding capability or ports to an older system

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome for the price

Pros: nice upgrade over onboard SATAII. Windows 7 64bit had native drivers. Worked like a charm.

4 out of 5 eggsCard works

Pros: it works

Cons: I had been using the card for a few months with a 1 tb raptor, and had no issues. I bought a samsung 840 pro, and cloned the raptor to the 256g ssd. Magician says I'm connected at 6 gps, but its own performance only gets to 198 bps.I believe the issue is my older intel m/b'c pci express is only 1, not pci express2, as in the cards setup, it says 250bps, not 500 bps. I think this is why my speed is only half of what it should be. something to be aware of, if using this on an older mother board.

Other Thoughts: If I am mistaken , please correct me to what the issue is, as Silverstones tech support hasn't answered my email I sent them.

4 out of 5 eggsNone

Pros: I don't give reviews anymore. After spending an hour on the last review to find no one had found it helpful. Look at the stars a gave.

Cons: Can't just plug in extra drives in it and use it that way. Has to be configure in raid or hyperdrive.

1 out of 5 eggs3x DOA

Pros: None

Cons: I needed a small simple controller to replace my horrid VIA controller. Unfortunately none of the three cards I had sent to me would fit the bill. On the intended system the card prevents the computer from POSTing. On any other system, the computer recognizes it then promptly crashes, whether or not I have installed the drivers. I am going to another card.

Other Thoughts: Been going through the hassle with this card for almost a month. Not mad @ Newegg. They did their job and I am happy about it.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing SilverStone. It's very uncharacteristic to have three product fail at the same time so if you can, please send an e-mail with more info about your computers to our tech support headquarters at:

support@silverstonetek.com

We will do everything we can to help you diagnose the problem and get your EC05 working with your computers.

3 out of 5 eggsNEEDED AN EXTRA SATA PORT

Pros: This product is very small and comes with two brackets apparantly for two different size expansion slots on the case. It slipped right in very snug. I plugged the (SATA)Pioneer 206 Blu-ray optical drive into it. It has the locking SATA jack for a secure connection. The system immediatly reconized that I now have an optical drive. Gigabyte GA-A75 UD4H needs on more SATA port

Cons: I have a win7 message that I need to install drivers. The included manual has 110 pages and this company says to read it before I install drivers. This is designed to be able to be used for RAID. I don't need that function. So I now have two choises read 110 pages or call their tech line. I'll let you know. But for no brainer optical drive it works fine. I had 5 SATA III ports and needed one more for the optical drive.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this to anyone needing an extra SATA III port. I'd love to see the company having the for thought to have a simple driver set up for garden variety installation. Not overly fond of reading through pages on a adobe pdf. a table of contents would be handy. Overall love the product as it solved an issue of not enough SATA ports. I have two SATA drive bays on top of my Thermaltake V9 case and two in front via a StarTech SATA bay plus one go-flex bay.

3 out of 5 eggsspeed is lower than expected

Pros: Installed this today and as the other review it wasnt hard to do. My speeds however is not what I had hoped for.

I installed the hyper x kingston ssd 120 Gb and the sata 2 on the motherboard is faster than the PCI-E sata 3 connection to the card.

I am doing BIOS updates and firmware updates to see if I can resolve this issue. Perhaps I am being over critical with only 3 eggs but this should not be an issue.

I am getting 200 MB/s on the sata 3 card and 280 Mb/s on sata 2 onboard which is something I find odd.

BIOS settings is NOT set as SATA to be IDE.

Anyways, the price is high and I had hoped it was worth it.

Cons: price, compatibility?

5 out of 5 eggsGood little SATA 3 Card

Pros: Plugged this little guy into the PCIe X4 slot on my MSI Z77a-G43 motherboard and off to the races. No hesitation on boot and Windows 7 installed drivers on its own, even though I followed up and installed the drivers with the mini disc provided. My C300 SATA3 SSD was at full speeds as per manufacturer's advertised speeds without a problem. Just for fun I also did a RAID 0 using Intel' RST management ( a program that seems to come with about everything,) and this worked fine as well. Uses the Marvell 9130 chip, so alternate sources for drivers are easy to find.

Cons: I thought the $35 price was a bit high.

Other Thoughts: If you need or want a few more SATA 3 connecters you could do alot worse than this little card. It plugs into a PCIE 2nd generation slot as well as the one I used.
