3 out of 5 eggsWorks but can't play back the files!

Pros: Easy to setup and use, captures well

Cons: Cannot playback the files

Other Thoughts: No matter what compression I use I can't play the files...Quicktime, Premiere, iMovie, VLC, nothing will open these files.

2 out of 5 eggsIt works, barely.

Pros: It's pretty well made, don't expect it to fall apart.

Cons: The software is complete garbage, the Powerdirector software it comes with is awful at encoding, it generates monstrously huge files and there are virtually no options for changing the encoding settings.
The other HUGE problem is that it only works with Powerdirector. I have tried Adobe Premiere CS5 and Elements 8, neither will use it. Premiere won't even recognize it. Windows Movie Maker won't even touch it! The issue there is that it seems that the device doesn't support "USB Video Class 1.0 driver" which is evidently some kind of standard for transportation of video over usb. Generally most of these type devices use firewire, but this one uses usb so it's already at a disadvantage, but Kworld goes the extra step by not using the standard that everyone else uses.

Other Thoughts: In short, if you want something that's click and go, it seems to work, barely. For the price, it's reasonable. Trust me and some of the other reviews here, spend some more money and get a better product that isn't tied to sorry software.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent quality at a low price

Pros: - Easy to setup and use (<5 minutes)
- Amazing quality for a dongle

This is, in my opinion, one of the best dongles on the market. The device itself is sleek, and easy to use, it comes with an extension cord so that you don't need to connect the device directly to your PC, and there is very little latency when it is capturing video.

Cons: - Packed-in editor is badly gimped
- Gets relatively warm
- Occasional crashes when not focused on capture software

The Cyberlink PowerDirector software is fairly badly gimped, and you need to export extremely large files to maintain quality, as most of the best formats are locked. However, running the capture files through Windows Movie Maker is a viable option that maintains the quality of the video and lowers the file size with no noticeable sacrifice.

PowerDirector isn't bad as an editor, per se, and it does have some nice features (speeding up video without raising the pitch of the audio, ease of use), but the locked features pretty much stop it from being useful aside from just the basics.

Other Thoughts: I've been using this product for several months now with little to know issues under the Windows XP environment. I can't say that your experience may be the same under Vista or Windows 7, but what I can say is that, hands down, this is the best price to quality you will get for any dongle you can buy. At this point, I'd only see me buying another of these if I needed a new capture device, or going for the larger upgrade and buying an HD PVR.

4 out of 5 eggsIt does it's job

Pros: Small, lightweight, works w/ Windows 7 64-bit and 32-bit. I use it w/ Flash Media Live Encoder, and am able to switch between the S-Video Input and Composite Input. Most decent video capture programs I have used can see it and utilize it.

Cons: No easy way to switch between S-Video and Composite inputs, unless the software you're using supports it. It seems to me that this should be made available w/in the driver, or some small control panel should be supplied w/in the driver. Some programs will recognize it, but will only access one video input (S-Video for example), with no support for selecting the other.

Other Thoughts: Would like to see something similar that supports HD from KWorld. They have PCI versions, but no usb HD capture device to date (That takes Component or HDMI Input). Also, I have the 1st and 2nd version of this, and they both work good. I suggest checking the specific software you intend to use for support. If you are upgrading from the original DVD Maker, you should be fine.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY unleass you want to be tied to their software

Pros: This is an awesome device. Nice form factor, easy to set up, overall very good design

Cons: Terrible drivers. The drivers only work with the Cyberlink software that is included. Don't buy this if you want to use other software. The engineering department at Kworld told me they don't feel like they need to allow their device to be used by programs that aren't made by their partners.

As a result this device only works to record video to hard drive.

Other Thoughts: The only time you want this device is if you are only wanting to use it to record with Cyberlink Director. In that case you can ignore this review. If you want to use any other program, then it will either work or not work. Don't worry about calling KWorld for driver support.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a Charm

Pros: Up and running on Vista 64 bit! Plus Lots of of software the works Also.

Cons: It's not FREE!

Other Thoughts: That blue led does not light when you hook it to up the usb port and it does not mean it its not working. It comes on when in use., (I.E. Video capture) For the $ it rocks and so does New Egg.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6)

Pros: Unable to give any as I am unable to use the device.

Cons: This product is listed as compatible with Mac OS X, but it doesn't state which version. The kernel extensions with the included Empia software is not compatible with OS X 10.6.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Works just as it should, even on Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Installed the drivers off the disc and was able to play games on the computer in minutes.

Cons: This is not mine, it is my friends', he bought it recently from newegg.

Other Thoughts: Using Windows Media Player Classic Home Cinema (File->open device->select the device for video/audio) and also using FRAPS, i was able to record Mario Strikers on the computer at really great quality, with no input lag while playing. I tested out the bundled software for capturing the consoles and there is a noticable audio lag, so i definately recommend downloading media player classic (it is free and small) and even unregistered FRAPS will work fine, as the framerate of play never went above 30fps (unregistered FRAPS has a 30fps recording cap). If i did not already have a capture device, i would buy this the next chance i got.

5 out of 5 eggsDVD maker USB device

Pros: This is a pretty good device compared to some others that I have tried. It connects and works on the first time with the sormuch better on Windows than on Mac as I have tried it on both.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Using the S-Video input from VHS there is always some loss of quality, but hey, what do you expect coming from less than Digital quality to begin with.
