1 out of 5 eggsInterferes with Motherboard Pata

Pros: fills a gap with old Pata MB without SATA support

Cons: Secondary Pata not recognized anymore

Other Thoughts: chasing tailend of tech is a pain at times...
Why have the Pata on the card without a jumper to disable it?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat if your out of PCIE ports

Pros: Works well. Cheap .. and a great way to get esata out of PCI slots.

Cons: Two connectors on the outside are 1 E-Sata and 1 "regular" sata

... so don't expect to hook up two esata drives to it without making a "custom cable" -- THe easiest way to make a "custom cable" is to (buy a "Esata bracket" that converts a one of your sata connectors to Esata and sits in an expansion slot).. unscrew one of the cables from the bracket and use it to connect the external sata to your esata drive. You may be able to get an Esata to sata cable at the egg if you look hard enough.

Other Thoughts: The external "Sata" connector may be useful in hooking bare drives up to the card (you'ld have to provide power from something like one of those ide/sata to usb jobbers like this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002

4 out of 5 eggswork for me

Pros: put card in and it works, what more can be simpler???! Need more sata port for my old P4 pc, use the e-sata to connect a TT external drive dock station for backup and storage, when use the usb to dock the drive, Aronic TI can't see the raid drives, with the e-sata connection it has no problem seeing the raid. and it did improve the speed over the usb a lot. Both internal and external ports works fine under Win XP for over 3 months now.

Cons: take 1 star off for only 2 ports can be use simultaneity not all 3 ports, and false advertising as 3GB transfer speed, it's only 1.5GB. It doesn't bother me, knowing before buy.

1 out of 5 eggsThere are better options out there

Pros: Inexpensive, and red in color if you're into that sort of thing...but thats about it.

Cons: Included instructions are a joke, just a folded piece of paper with some vague directions. Only comes with a mini-cd for drivers so you have to already have a working HDD and OS installed just so you can copy the drivers to a floppy drive before you can install Windows on it. Also the card wouldn't read the $MFT (a vital part of the HDD) properly so the HDD wouldn't be read properly, and wouldn't even show up half the time.

Other Thoughts: I tested this component in 2 completely different computers with the same result, and the HDD used was verified to work perfectly fine with onboard SATA. Bottom line is, if you really need a PCI SATA card its better to just save your hard earned $$ and buy something better, or just buy an inexpensive motherboard that has onboard SATA.

2 out of 5 eggsMistake

Pros: Cheap and seems versatile. I wanted a simple SATA interface so I could add one SATA drive to an XP system with an IDE boot drive.

Cons: Driver CD defective. Drivers not available on web site. Tech support at PPA not responsive. Box says 1.5 Gb/s, contradicting 3.0 Gb/s claims on manufacturer's web site.

Other Thoughts: Buying this card was a mistake. I will have to find another, and it will not be from this manufacturer.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, fast

Pros: I bought a new 1TB Samsung Spinpoint for my home server, but alas, the server has no SATA ports. Bought the SYBA SD-SATA-1E1I PCI SATA Controller Card, and it failed miserably. I spent several hours trying to get it to work.

I ordered this card, and it worked immediately. It works with Linux out of the box. I was concerned about performance, being connected to the PCI bus and all, but hdparm was showing 85+MB/s transfer. I'm happy.

Cons: There are 2 external SATA, 1 internal SATA port, and an undocumented internal PATA port. One of the external SATA ports and the internal SATA port are tied, so you can only use one or the other. Not a big deal though.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Card, Decent Price

Pros: You can hook up to 2 devices, 1 being eSATA the other being SATA internal or external. Drivers work well enough in Linux or Windows XP/Vista. Tech support takes a few days to get back to you, but they will get back to you.

Cons: Could have made the 2 SATA connections independent.

Other Thoughts: Make sure if you are using a SATA II drive, you set the jumpers on the hard drive to limit the data transfer to SATA I (150). If not, your system will hang if you try to use a eSATA connection during startup.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Cheap.
Easy installation. Windows XP (SP2) and Linux (Ubuntu 8.04) both recognized the card. I didn't need to use the vendor CD.
On Windows, file transfer was faster on PPA (1.5GB/s)SATA card vs a more expensive eSATA card made by Promise (3GB/s).

Cons: As some of the other reviewers stated, the Newegg specs said 3.0 GB/s, the box said 1.5 GB/s. That's the only reason I don't rate this product as a 5.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work, mislabelled

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Couldn't get it to work with Windows Vista
Product photo at Newegg says 3.0Gb/s all over, product delivered says 1.5Gb/s

Other Thoughts: Speed is irrelevant since PCI doesn't support 3.0 Gb/s anyway. I'm returning this card mainly because I couldn't get it to work. I'll get a PCI Express card instead.
133 MB/s PCI 33MHz 1Gb/s
266 MB/s PCI 66MHz 2.1 Gb/s
512 MB/s PCI Express 1 Lane 4 Gb/s

2 out of 5 eggsCheap for a reason

Pros: For the price it would seem like a great choice. The e-sata port is a definite plus.

Cons: The instruction sheet is a joke. XP did not recognize device right away and install disc is not very user friendly. Instructions state to open CD folder and select setup. That would be great but there are two folders that contain a setup file, each a different driver. After connecting external drive to e-sata computer froze. Now i am running drive through USB 2.0.

Other Thoughts: Spend the extra 10 bucks for a better card. This card is not worth the cost-savings. Website does not have drivers for this model. Also, as AuraDave stated, Newegg shows a picture of a 3.0gb/s card, the card received has 1.5gb/s all over the box. Bait/switch. . .possibly.
