4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great - with the right software

Pros: The unit you will receive is actually a nicer, sleeker, updated version. Looks much better and high quality. Works great with a program (free) called Veedub. With that you can use this card to record video/audio streams and to simply watch or monitor them. I basically use this card and Veedub to play my Super Nintendo with because I don't have a TV with composite or S-video inputs. This thing works perfectly as a replacement for your old TV. Plug your composite/S-video device (VCR, dvd player, camera, game console) in and use your computer to view and play. Zero lag with decent hardware. 1:1 ratio of button press to on-screen action when gaming. Just like playing SNES on a regular TV.

-Updated model of the pictured card is what you get
-Card works perfect with zero lag using the right software
-Perfect for capturing video/audio
-Perfect for monitoring video/audio
-Can be used as a composite and S-video input source to play older game consoles with, or to use an old VCR on or DVD player on.

Cons: The remote seemed to work for a short while only with the included software - which didn't really work, either. Software wouldn't detect any video - ever. I'd get some kind of error saying the software couldn't initialize the device. So after some searching, I found the open source program Veedub seemed to work. It works great - however the remote doesn't seem to work with Veedub or any other software. The remote is pretty useless anyways since you can control the card functions with software.

-Included software is useless
-Remote is useless without included software...which, like I said, is useless

Other Thoughts: For the price, don't hesitate to buy this thing. Remote and software issues are easily remedied by downloading and using Veedub or other similar open source software

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Take The Gamble

Pros: Looks like some got it to work

Cons: software is sub-par, audio is mono, could not get to work on 2 separate machines

Other Thoughts: spend more on a proven brand, don't gamble on this one.

2 out of 5 eggsThe Sabrent

Pros: The thing will record video somewhat well. I recorded a few things on this device.

Cons: The audio port broke just after a few uses. I didn't get to digitize my vhs tapes because it would record because the audio port syncs everything. All of the videos were out of sync after that. I had bought it specifically to record a vhs I bought for a friend that you can't find on DVD. I was going to give them the vhs and the video file. Sadly everything was out of sync because the part is kind of cheap. IF you don't have audio in on the card everything is off timing. Remember that about this card -- if you don't have the audio port the thing is useless. It wasn't worth it to me to replace so I threw it away. It was a waste and I should have gone with something a little more expensive. The video was also a little nauseating at times but I'm not sure if I used the right program to record. It was skittish.

Other Thoughts: Some vhs tapes are worth recording because there aren't dvd copies. And It can record live tv. However, I had better luck and more synced audio on my 14 year old intel webcam that had video in. It recorded in 480 pixels. That thing was amazing and I lost the drivers for it after they stopped supporting it. My original goal was to replace the camera. Get this only if you don't have any better option and you aren't working with professional digitizing or archiving. Would be good for teachers if you can get the thing to work properly as most libraries have been replacing VHS tapes with DVD and some of the old documentary tapes are valuable. Just be weary that it takes a lot to get the thing to work properly.

1 out of 5 eggsSucks

Pros: *Cheap
*Latest revision?
*Black PCB instead of red

Cons: When I try to install the drivers, it says "SAA713x TV Card device NOT found! Please restart Windows and try again and make sure the TV Card is inserted firmly." Well, I have done both. Still the same, so I do not know if this is a software problem with the disc that it came with, or the TV card, or my motherboard doesn't like the TV card. Maybe a combination of all three.

But when I go to right click on computer > Manage, and look if my computer detects it, lone and behold, it does.

Other Thoughts: A refund, or a proper driver and software disc would be nice, when I buy something, I expect it to work.

1 out of 5 eggsPure Junk

Pros: None

Cons: Purchased one of these Sabrent's from Newegg a couple of years ago. The first one was Junk, Newegg replaced it. The Second one was Junk. They worked weakly at first, then just Quit.

Other Thoughts: Even at 20 dollars this is not worth it. You will be very Unhappy with this. I am somewhat disappointed that NewEgg would be trying to peddle this stuff. NewEgg is usually a good place to purchase stuff.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Junk

Pros: NONE!

Cons: Provided software that came with it DOES NOT work with Windows 7. Even though it states that it works for windows 7. After Jerry rigging the hardware together with Multiple different downloaded drivers and software it worked but just barely. Horrible video quality. Doesn't work with Windows Media Center. and absolutely NOTHING would record on this device. Requesting Refund

Other Thoughts: DO NOT buy this device unless you have a windows XP or older pc

5 out of 5 eggsMore than worth it.

Pros: Skyrim, DiRT 3, Amensia... you name it. And then run it on maxed out settings with absolutely no performance cost.

Cons: This depends on the machine, but, for myself the size of it caused me to have rearrange my hdds to make it fit.

Other Thoughts: Buy it buy it buy it buy it. Don't even think about it. Just do it.

Well, maybe think a little.
