1 out of 5 eggsForced to change my mind

Pros: Worked for a month

Cons: Initially I gave this card a 5 egg review. Now I'm forced to retract everything I wrote. This card is utter rubbish. Not only it does not work, but on any attempt to communicate with attached device it locks the computer so hard, that neither the reset nor power buttons work and I have to pull the power cord. It is the first time that I see an expansion card to lock a motherboard so hard.
Changing ports doesn't help, changing USB cables doesn't fix the problem.

Other Thoughts: If I was to give 3 advices they would be:
1. Avoid
2. Avoid
3. Avoid

Go rather with slow USB2 than boy this card and crawl behind the computer every time you try to use something with USB3 interface.

1 out of 5 eggsGMYLE 4-Port USB 3.0 PCIe card works with Linux

Pros: None

Cons: Doesn't work with Linux. See below for a solution.

Other Thoughts: If you want a 4-port USB 3.0 PCIe controller based on an NEC chipset (so that it works with Linux) you have limited choices. I can verify that one made by GMYLE works exceptionally well. Unlike the Sabrent. I wish NewEgg sold it, but it doesn't.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes NOT work with Fedora 19.

Pros: None.

Cons: Does NOT work with Fedora 19, unlike other reviewer claims. Doesn't work either with external Seagate 4TB USB 3.0 disks OR with Western Digital 4TB SATA drives in an external USB 3.0 enclosure.

Other Thoughts: The reason it doesn't work with Linux is that it uses a Via chipset, NOT an NEC chipset. If you want a USB 3.0 controller that works with Linux, don't waste your money on any controller with a Via chipset. NEC is the only way to go. While I had googled the need for a NEC chipset prior to purchasing this item, I was misled into thinking that this Sabrent card had an NEC chipset. It does not.My pain is your gain.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted 1 yr; just past warranty

Pros: - 4 ports
- Speeds were acceptable. Not as fast as my on-board 3.0 ports but close.

Cons: - Lasted just a couple weeks past warranty. 375 days to be exact.
- I used this with external drives. When a port would drop out of the card, I would have to reboot to get the drive back.

Other Thoughts: On to the next one

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for me

Pros: Can't find any right now.

Cons: Could not get two cards to work in Dell XPS8300. First was dead, second would not recognize any USB devices.

Other Thoughts: Did not purchase from NE. Would not recommend this card for Dell XPS 8300. Return for refund.

3 out of 5 eggsAn issue but not sure

Pros: Easy to install and easy to use

Cons: I did NOT purchase my Sabrent 3.0 card from NewEgg. I have an issue in that 2 of my computer's USB 3.0 ports are not recognized; admittedly, it may be an issue with the motherboard or Windows 8 as the packaging for this product does NOT say it is Windows 8 compatible. So, the fault may be my own. But I've ordered another card so I can try to get my USB 3.0 ports to work. I'm hoping to replace the Sabrent card.

Other Thoughts: Also, the USB "port" actually pulled out of the card. It is a blue, plastic piece that pulled off and out of the card and "stuck" to my female/connector of my USB device. Never had that happen. I'm suspicious this card is NOT compatible with Windows 8; I'll update my review when I get the new card installed.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well in linux. with the kernel xhci driver

Pros: I needed this so I could get good performance with my 4TB Hitachi external drive on my Q9550 system that I run Mythtv. The card runs fine with the xhci driver that is built-in to the linux kernel. In my case I have tested it with a 3.8.X kernels only.

Cons: none yet.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great !!

Pros: plain and simple...plug & play(see other thoughts).

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: don't know why I chose the SABRENT but I am glad I did. I have 2 other puters with same setup but I purchased brand x USB 3.0 4-Port PCI Express cards and boy where they laggy. may have been a driver issue but i replaced them with the sabrent. no more lag problems.
