3 out of 5 eggsIt works BUT....

Pros: It reads CDrom and a IDE HDD that is in a tray.

Have not tested burning yet

I installed the driver from enclosed mini-CD

Cons: Having boot problems with Win7 Ultimate. Every 2nd boot hangs when the color dots first swirl to form the window logo.

Other Thoughts: If anyone has a "Fix" for the boot problem would like to know what it is.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked in Win 7 64 bit system once I loaded the driver. Used the SATA for DVD RW drives no problem, and the IDE worked great for one disk.

Cons: I had to down load new drivers from the site, as Win 7 said there was a conflict.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for FreeNAS

Pros: Works great for another Drive in the FreeNAS! Does Exactly what it is supposed to do and there is still room to add more drives.

Cons: As long as it picks up the drive in FreeNAS then I guess there are non for me.

1 out of 5 eggsGood idea, bad solution

Pros: Cheap solution for legacy IDE devices.
Sounds like a good idea.

Cons: Almost nonexistent support for Windows 7.

If you want to purchase MassCool's old unusable inventory, feel free to purchase this device. They'll love you for it!

You'll find that it's less headache to simply buy this item and transfer it directly to your trash bin and THEN go ahead and replace your legacy IDE devices with some shiny new SATA devices.

Funny thing is... The SATA DVD replacement drive was a dollar cheaper than this item (with FREE shipping). Doh! I shoulda known, I shoulda known...

Other Thoughts: Used this to install my old IDE DVD's to my new mobo that has no IDE port. Windows 7 recognized it but when I would try to access either of the drives it would blue screen with "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".

Searched and searched their website for an updated driver (it DOES say that it's Win7 compatible) and finally found that I needed to install the driver from VIA for a "VT6421". The most updated driver is dated March 12, 2010 ver. 5.90A. At least that solved the blue screen problem.

At this point I was good to go... until I tried to write to a DVD. I'm happy to say it didn't blue screen on me. In fact it didn't do anything except completely lock up my system. I was so happy that I purchased this product and was able to learn so much about my new mainboard by trying to get this thing to work.

My final suggestion would be to save yourself some headaches (and a PCI slot) and just spend a buck less on a new SATA DVD drive. The costs and headaches of returning it are prohibit

5 out of 5 eggsEasy

Pros: I used this card to connect some old IDE hard drives I had laying around because my newer motherboard didn't think IDE was necessary. I connected the card, booted up and all hard drives were recognized with no drivers to install and nothing to configure.

Win 7 x64

Cons: It didn't hop in the computer itself.

Other Thoughts: I didn't do any speed tests because I don't care about how fast it reads or writes I just wanted access to more space, and it does that job perfectly.

2 out of 5 eggsdisappointing

Pros: cheap, had the ports I was looking for

Cons: This card just would not work in any of my machines. I have three different machines with different OS's and none of them would acknowledge the card and when they would, the drivers wouldn't take.

Other Thoughts: Wasnt' worth the RMA.

4 out of 5 eggsCard Works Fine with XP Home

Pros: Adds a few SATA ports (1.5 Gbps). Has working RAID 0, 1 and JBOD. The soon to be obsolete IDE interface is included. That in itself might come in handy some rainy day.

Kind of reminds me of my other card - N82E16816132008.

Cons: None really, although don't expect any miracles with RAID 0. I was not expecting that from the VIA chip anyway.

Don't plan on booting from this card either, unless the jumpers will allow it.

Speaking of jumpers, no clue on jumper settings. I left both of mine on 2/3 and the internal ports and IDE worked. Not sure what to set them for the external - I couldn't use it anyway as it is too close to the edge to fit a plug into it.

Other Thoughts: I benchmarked this card when I got it. Here are the results for > 32KB transfers using Atto Bench32:

Seagate 40GB SATA II with 2MB of cache
Around 60MB/s both read and write

WD 40GB SATA II with 8MB of cache (refurbed/chopped 160GB)
Around 83MB/s both read and write

Both drives in RAID 0 array with default striping (64kB)
Around 89MB/s read and 53MB/s write

2 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my previous review

Pros: It worked.

Cheap

Cons: Went belly up prematurely.

No RAID.

Can't boot from it.

SATA I

Other Thoughts: I used this in one of my other rigs with hot swap bays. it worked well for a while until one day the computer just stopped recognizing it. Tested it in another machine and same thing.
