4 out of 5 eggsbad for Windows 7

Pros: Easy to install

Phone call to technical support was handled VERY well.

Cons: Drivers for Vista x64 are available for download, but do not work in Windows 7 because of Driver Digital Signature Enforcement. This can be disabled (using F8 at boot-up), but would have to be done every time I want to use this card. Unfortunately, it even then still causes problems with Windows XP Virtual PC. (extremely frequent and long pauses)

Other Thoughts: I think with some tweaks to the Vista x64 drivers and getting them signed for Windows 7, this would be a great product.

I still gave 4 eggs because I was very impressed with the support call. Even though the gentleman had a very strong foreign accent, I found him to be competent and helpful.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with a little work

Pros: Once I got it up and running, had no problem.

Cons: Ran into an issue installing the drivers on XP.
Installation would error out with "service installation section in this inf is invalid".

This error is caused by using a modified version of XP (ie slimmed down). If you customized your install with nLite or obtained a "custom" XP disc off the interweb there is a good chance you will run into this problem.

After poking around, I found the fix however (no thanks to the manufacturer's website).

Open up the driver CD and look for the folder "2S". Then open up the "XP" folder.

Inside you will find NmPar.sys and nmserial.sys.

Copy these two files to C:/Windows/system32/drivers/
Reboot
Install.

Should go through fine now.

Other Thoughts: Was using a custom version of XP Pro SP3 and I guess I got trigger happy in nLite and took something out that should of been left. The fix above got me up and running though. Works fine now.

5 out of 5 eggsYes

Pros: So far so good. Using with a Gigabyte X38-DQ6 mobo (which does have 1 serial, but of course that's not enough) running 32-bit XP Pro. Perfectly stable. Beats any USB dongle out there, hands down.

Cons: The fact that I have to buy one in the first place because they've deleted serial ports off the motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with PCM UPSs

Pros: Works with a PCM BNT1000 UPS under XP

Cons: NOT compatible with Vista.

Other Thoughts: Product works as advertised under XP. It is quite extraordinary to trash a product and its origin purely because it is not compatible with your CHOSEN operating system. This product is not compatible with vista and the documentation says so. Read, read, or is that perhaps the problem!

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless For Vista

Pros: None, not a thing positive I can say about this paper weight

Cons: Simply junk, not matter what drivers, which Com ports it's set to, basically under ALL conditions it will completely crash Vista (First time in over a year that I've been running it) and causes a hardware reset and reboot, a real fine way to completely trash your whole computer

Other Thoughts: I should have known better than to buy ANYTHING made in Communist China
