1 out of 5 eggs0 documentation, 0 support

Pros: ....... they provided a firewire cable

Cons: I have been capturing video via firewire for 20 years, typically you put the PCI card in and voila it works! I placed the card in the slot, windows detected it and seemed to install. I plugged in the camera and nothing. The card came with one of those mini CD's titled 'driver' which contained an assortment of random folders with arcane names. There was a folder named 'Drivers' which contained drivers for real media, quicktime, some dated codec .... nothing related to my needs. There was a folder with an executable but resulted in a missing file error. I tried to call BYTECC, some guy that sounded like Cheech answered but said the "tech guy" was out today and try back tomorrow.

Other Thoughts: Some companies deserve to fail, BYTECC is one. I wouldn't buy a mousepad from them.

3 out of 5 eggsadding to previous review

Pros: Adding to my previous 3 egg review. I used my old heavy dependable firewire cable and this card never worked with win 7/64 ultimate.

Cons: This card never worked with win 7/64 ultimate. That is the only OS I run these days.

3 out of 5 eggstotal fail on win 7/64 ultimate

Pros: Cheap price.

Cons: Did not work ever. After the usual power down, unplug, wait a couple of minutes, plug in card, power up Windows 7 ultimate 64. my computer tried to install drivers and then the BSOD appeared ranting about failint parity check. Repeat; fail. Repeat: another fail. Filed for RMA to NewEgg. I am grateful to Newegg for absorbing shipping both ways. Might have been my bad because win7 is not mentioned on the manufactures site. or newegg. I went with 3 eggs for that reason. I am not pulling out an old XP box to test. I have to get this video archived.

Other Thoughts: On to an SIIG card which costs 2.3 times as much. Bytecc was an inexpensive dream but I am not waiting for a return and another try.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The card worked great and was easy to install. I got the drivers from their website since I never choose the (usually) outdated drivers that are on CDs that come with things like this. It even came with a standard firewire cable.

Cons: The included cable had loads of issues when I tried to use it for transferring video from a DV camera. It kept losing the connection every 10 minutes or so. It's probably not dense enough to handle that big of a data transfer.

Other Thoughts: I installed this in my parents' computer so they could get video off of their camera. It worked fine with the camera's higher density cable, but not so much with the included cable. Otherwise, the card worked great.

5 out of 5 eggsInexpensive and Quick

Pros: No taxes or shipping.Less than a week delivery with five emails. It was what I ordered. It worked good with three different movie maker softwares.Came with two different card slot covers and I did switch out.Installed in less than five minutes.

Cons: Had a 3"driver CD that was not for the card I bought.Stumped me for a minute. No set up manual as said in the ad. It did come with a 1394 4pin to 6pin cord but it was real short. That wasn't advertised.

Other Thoughts: Why would I buy an i.Link card in 2012? I have a $1100, 10 year old Sony Digital/Analog Video camera that I will not let die.I have been going analog to digital thru old soft ware with good results.I finally read the manual and found that Sony did it in the camera and all you have to do then is get it in your computer with an 1394 cable. The results were incredible. That old fire wire will transmit data as fast as my hard drive will take it.(just as fast as USB 2).It was $20.00 well spent

4 out of 5 eggsstrange

Pros: Works well.

Cons: The metal part that screws into the computer was too short. From my research they are a standard size so I am not sure why it is so short. I bent the metal back and it fits and works fine.
