4 out of 5 eggsBT-PES322i

Pros: PCIe x1 does work in PCIe x16 slot. I needed a PATA port in a Windows 8.1 OS system and the card is providing that. Tech support was critical to my being able to use the card; Ken Wu did a great job for a company that otherwise smashed its own toes with the included useless CD.

Cons: The CD had drivers for a host of products the company sold; with no executable driver loading files, certainly not for the BT-PES322i. Directory names are useless unless you understood looking at the board a marvell driver was needed. Going to the website I downloaded exactly what was on the CD timed as the same day a couple of hours earlier. The files possibly would work with pre-knowledge of where to make manual registry entries and load files... I'm not that good! Tech support Ken Wu had an executable sent in an email .zip file with a setup.exe file that worked for Windows 8.1 Pro. It loads as a SCSI though not used as such, before the Windows 8 screen

Other Thoughts: I'm not using RAID 0 or 1 between the 2x SATA ports but since they are 6 gb/s ports I'm thinking PCIe x1 is going to be choking performance between two such drives; especially two SSDs.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this card

Pros: Did a great RAID 1....

Cons: Until the card popped after a little over a year of use. Unfortunately in the course of its demise it decided to send some corrupted data to the RAID 1 set thereby destroying the data on not one hard drive, but both. The whole point of having a RAID 1 was to provide redundancy for my data, and this card made it so that it actually provided the opposite, it destroyed not one, but two copies of the data.

Other Thoughts: Sad to read that this company is based in China, and that their website is written in very sketchy English. I have not yet heard back from my email, but I suspect the response will not be, "sure we'd love to pay to have your data recovered," or "sure we'd love to pay you for the time it will take to attempt that yourself." I'm pretty sure it will be something like "Oh we sorry, warranty only one year. We take no responsibility for user data. When we save we want to provide best value, we mean best value for us, not you."

I will update if I hear differently. Of course my only other option at this point is to actually buy another one of these *not nice word for one star products* cards and see if it can access the RAID set, but if it can't then I'll be stuck with a card which obviously sucks, and still have no data, so I am on the fence about that.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage Pile

Pros: When it works, it works....for a while, then eventually doesn't

Cons: I purchased 2 of these; neither have worked reliably. They are apparently incompatible with one of my motherboards, and there's really no way to tell because I could not find a compatibility list for it. It simply won't recognize it or anything attached to it in BIOS (even with the latest BIOS flashed), nor in Windows Server 08 R2.

The other system I have it installed into recognizes it, but then randomly and inexplicably, it just goes away, from device manager and in windows. After a system reboot, it comes back. I have tested all theories here, I have a 750W power supply that I know I'm nowhere near utilizing it's capacity, and this does not happen with any other devices, even ones I install into the same PCI-E port.

Additionally, you will have to bend the back bracket to get it to fit properly, as it didn't line up with either of my standard ATX cases. Nothing major, but it does leave a gap along the back where it must be bent to get the screw in.

I'll also note that it is interesting finding the drivers as there really isn't much for documentation with these cards.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy, pay the extra money for something name branded or at least more trusted.

1 out of 5 eggsPenguins beware

Pros: Dunno, can't get it to work.

Cons: This board uses the Marvell 88SE9123 chip. That chip has been known to not work on Linux for years.
