2 out of 5 eggsFine until Windows 10. Not good for current technology

Pros: Worked well up to windows 10. Has a multiplier to allow SATA connection to external enclosures with multiple bays.

Cons: Complete system freeze in windows 10 when computer left idle.
Black screen without a mouse cursor.
Removed card and plugged hard drive enclosure in using usb3. Computer no longer crashing.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I got access to all 4 internal ports. I don't use the external ports. I had an old motherboard with only 1 or 2 sata ports and setup a raid system with 5 harddrives.

Cons: It is a little slower than the newer PCI express cards, but it would on a greater number of motherboards.

Other Thoughts: Use this card on older motherboards.

1 out of 5 eggsNever worked right

Pros: Price, number of ports

Cons: Could never get it to work reliably. Every hour or so would yield data loss and RAID failure. When going through each port individually, they would each yield data loss after an hour or so. I wanted to like this because it's one of the very few PCI cards with so many SATA ports, but just can not recommend it.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not support drives over 2TB! External SATA doesn't work!

Pros: None

Cons: I bought this on 3/16/2013 and could never get the external SATA ports to work. It didn't matter much since I hardly use them and bought this for the internal ports.

Well, fast forward 1yr + 4mos and I recently just bought a 3TB internal hard drive to upgrade the storage in my system.

Lo and behold, this stupid P O S card can't even support it!

It does recognize it as a 3TB drive, but in Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, it only splits the drive into 2 volumes:

1. A 2TB volume that can function like a normal drive.
2. The remaining space, which is completely inaccessible and cannot be used at all in any way! Can't format, create volume, mount...nothing!

I wish I didn't wait so long to buy a large hard drive because it's way too late for me to return this P O S!!!

5 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 compatible

Pros: Compatible with Windows 7
For more, see earlier review.

Cons: None here... see earlier review.

Other Thoughts: Just a brief update to my earlier review. I upgraded one of my older PCs to Windows 7 and moved this card to that PC. Absolutely no issues. During the plug & play new device install, Windows merely downloaded the appropriate drivers, all automatically.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine, no problems

Pros: Adds SATA / eSATA to older PCI-based computers.
Reasonable price
Has worked without issue for 11 months now.
Tech support was prompt and helpful in understanding the documentation.

Cons: Documentation somewhat confusing, but see "pro" about tech support. Minus 1 egg for that. Hardware itself would deserve all 5 eggs.

Other Thoughts: Don't expect blazing speed, since it is limited to the capability of the old PCI standard.
The need for floppy drive only comes into play if you intend to boot from one of the SATA drives. Just leave an old PATA drive in place for booting up and everything is fine.

3 out of 5 eggsExternal

Pros: Worked great running with 2 x ports to eSATAII to Thermaltake BlackX SATAII Docks (ST0005U) on Win7x64.

Cons: 2.5 years later, it started stuttering for a week and then one of the eSATA ports failed. (Lower one (Port F))

Capped throughput of 80MB/sec.

Other Thoughts: Detects as SiiL3114 Hardware ID
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_71141095&REV_02

4 out of 5 eggsOK

Pros: Just wanted to have additional SATA ports as my mainboard has only two.I am using it now for almost two years and so far no complaints.

Cons: Its only 150MBps so SATAII works only so fast.my bad, I should have paid more attention.

Other Thoughts: This card is one of the few that has still PCI interface and works just fine with 'older' PC's.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in Linux

Pros: Worked in my Ubuntu Linux media server that I'm building from old parts. Didn't have to install any drivers in Ubuntu 12.04, it just worked.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm not using the raid, just needed more SATA ports for as cheap as possible for media storage and this is it. Fast enough for streaming HD content so it fits the bill.
