1 out of 5 eggsStay away from this product

Pros: I have windows vista 64 bit system(8 GB, 750 GB HD, CPU Q9550). But it for hard drive of 1.5 tera byte. I am using this HD for back up purpose. Installation is easy.

Cons: My computer had no problem until I have installed this card. Since I have installed this card, I am having problem which says like , "... stops working...close program" for many of my installed software. For example,
"Skype stopped working ...", "HP digital stopped working ...", "Internet explorer/Google chrome stopped workng.." etc. It keep comming in some interval. I could not find any solution yet for this. I'll not recommand this product.

Other Thoughts: You anybody encounter this problem and solves it please update.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not get recognized on cold boot.

Pros: Two disks detected on PCIE at 1.5GB/s. One is a 2TB SATA 2 and the other one a 3TB Sata 3.

Cons: This card almost never gets detected at cold boot. I have to shut it down and restart it and it then gets detected by the bios. Weird...
Also, the boot speed is much slower than normal with my win7x64 SSD boot.

Other Thoughts: Other than that, it works fairly well when detected. I am suspecting that I may not be getting the 3GB/s one of my disk is capable of and I do not know why.

4 out of 5 eggsSupport when it counds

Pros: Easy installation, good documentation. I had no problem with the speed. The card performed as expected. (* See below)

Cons: The product became intermittent after 3 months use but the manufacturer was very responsive when it counted most. (* See below)

Other Thoughts: * No product is 100% but what is more important than "perfection" is how the company backs up their products with support when things aren't "perfect". In this regard I found Vantec to be above and beyond, even for a small-cost item such as this, and that's what really counts. Because of the way they handle proglems I would buy again from Vantec.

1 out of 5 eggs"Killed" 2 Hard Drives

Pros: low profile, so cheap i'm not going to bother with RMA

Cons: terrible card worst thing I've ever used. i plug it in and as there instruction call for i also plugged in the 2 hard drives i intended to use with it ( 2x 1tb hd) it immediately cause my bios to load twice (?!?) then windows never would load just a blinking underscore. so i pull it out and what do you know computer boots up fine ( i did not plug my 2 drives back in yet) so i turn it off and figure i need to rma card so i plug my 2 drives back into motherboard in the sata3 slots since the other sata6 were full. my computer loaded to windows logo then just hangs there forever until shutdown or reset i find that if either of the hd were plugged in windows never loaded. I thought the card hard somehow burned out both my drive. in desperation i tried swapping out the sata cables with 2 fresh ones... all drives booted instantly and fine and the card seems to have burned out the cables which no longer function but both cables were being used and worked just fine before i plugged them into card

TLDR: may destroy your hardware you plug into it

Other Thoughts: dont buy! would NOT recommend!

5 out of 5 eggsworks so far

Pros: It was very cost effective and setup was simple enough

Cons: I hope i know if one of the drives fail.

Other Thoughts: I got this knowing that it may not go above 4gb/s becuase of the pci limit but I have it in an 8x slot and it seems to be working just fine. I have two 2tb 6gb/s drives in RAID 1 using the cards Virtual Drive manager. Windows doesn't seem to even know there are two drives. Hopefully it will also be future proof and can go into my next system for more SATA options.

5 out of 5 eggsPCIe 1x limit is 4gb/s

Pros: Usefull for additional SATA ports.

Cons: Not meant for performance: PCIe 1x has 4gb/s peak bandwidth. This is absolutely not meant for RAID 0 SDDs because the bandwidth per drive IS SHARED. Therefore your RAID 0 stuff CANNOT go faster than 4gb/s and I'm not even taking the overhead into consideration.

Other Thoughts: This card provides additional ports which is useful for mechanical drives (eg. backups and storage). This is not meant for performance is any ways.

3 out of 5 eggsslow

Pros: 1. Two extra SATA ports
2. The bracket can be removed, allowing installation in an internal PCI-E slot.

Cons: 1. Slow, especially on writes. My two OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs write at less than half the speed when connected to the Vantec SATA connectors than when connected to the motherboard SATA connectors, as reported by the Blackmagic Intensity Pro speed test utility. My motherboard is an ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo with Intel IOCH10R controller.

2. Boot time is much longer with this card

Other Thoughts: I'll probably return this card. I ran the speed tests after reading reviews that said this card was too slow, but was surprised at just how slow it really was in my system. I wanted it to create a RAID 0 with two SSDs, but its performance is not acceptable.

4 out of 5 eggsSimple RAID PCI-E Card

Pros: Bios extension displays SATA bandwidth of connected drives and PCI-E bandwidth of itself. This card includes an interface to view configuration from within an operating system.

Cons: Frequently one of my two drives is not detected on bootup, making the bios extension show a nonfunctional RAID volume. Always works again on restart.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if this card supports TRIM over RAID like Intel RAID controllers are starting to support, and I don't want to put a huge wear on my SSD array just to test this.

3 out of 5 eggsWorking RAID Card

Pros: -You can add 2 more sata devices
-convenient for a raid1 setup

Cons: -Some people still use IDE hard drives?
-price is high

Other Thoughts: If you want USB3.0 Support and 4 SATA ports instead I would suggest the ASUS Model U3S6 expansion card. 24.99 right now, bundle with others to dillute shipping costs.
