5 out of 5 eggsEasy to Install and It Works

Pros: Plug-n-play just as advertised.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought another brand that never worked no matter what I did, so I tried this Vantec card and I’m glad I did. I use it with a Canon VIXIA HV 30 Video cam with no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: My onboard firewire port failed and this little card was just what I needed. Using it to convert 100+ MiniDV tapes to DVD format with the help of an ADVC-55 and Pinnacle Studio (simple for my need), and thus far, not one hiccup. Price was excellent too.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Thanks, Newegg, for another great transaction. You have yet to fail me.

5 out of 5 eggsPower and Windows 7 driver

Pros: Easy to install. Works!

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I installed on an HP 1370 desktop.
Windows 7 64-bit.

The Hardware Installation section in the User Manual says "Connect the system power source to the board's power connector." My machine had a connector dangling from the wire harness coming from the power supply, which I connected to the Vantec board.

Vantec's pretty pictorial installation guide shows steps 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 - no step 5. And no mention of the power connector. I did not try the board without the power connection.

For my Samsung SCD23 video camera (circa 2003), it is necessary to replace the IEEE driver with the Legacy driver. You do that in Properties/Update Driver in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Device Manager.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Auto detected by Win7 x64.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Works well in a ASRock Z75 Pro3 motherboard connected to a Zeiss Axiocam MRm camera. Image quality seems equal or better to previous setup using a TI chipset.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb

Pros: Just what the doctor ordered. I had purchased a piece of audio equipment theat required a fire wire connection. Althouth my mother board has two FW connectors, the computer just woul dnot recognize the audio hardware. I ordered and installed this fire wire card and had instant sucessful results. It has been working perfectly now for over a month. Delivery was the usual, very quick. Thanks new egg.

Cons: I've experienced no cons as of yet.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for Audio I/O Interfacing

Pros: Simple, straightforward, easy to install firewire 400 card.

Cons: VIA chipset. I would have preferred a TI chipset, but it works nonetheless.

Other Thoughts: I installed this in a Dell X8300 (Win7 64bit Home). It installed and worked perfect right out of the box. No problems interfacing with a Focusrite Sapphire Pro24, which is picky about wanting a TI chipset. The Vantec uses a VIA chipset, but it works flawlessly with the Pro24. Great value!
