3 out of 5 eggseSata

Pros: Tech support from Vantec saved the day!!Works well once figured out configuration!!

Cons: If you are buying this card for an eSata outlet you needed to change jumpers on the card. Manuel is lacking in explanation on how to configure card for eSata. After installing card into PCI slot and connecting to docking station I was getting no data. Spend a few hours researching and found nothing until I called Tech Support for Vantec. Four of the Jumpers on the card (J1-J4) need to be moved. Once done eSata worked fine.

Other Thoughts: Wish Manuel had better explanation to configure eSata since it is an eSata Card!!!!

2 out of 5 eggs2 Ports Only

Pros: The two internal ports work

Cons: The two eSATA ports are of no use if you do use the two internal ports, as only two ports are available for use at any given time. So the misnomer of having 4 sata ports of expansion is misleading. It is a 4 port card of which only two will work at any given time....WT*?

Other Thoughts: Buy a 4 port card that you can uise all 4 ports or buy a 2 port card, but don't buy a 4 port card of which only two can be used at a time.....

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. If working correctly, you should be able to use all 4 ports. I encourage you to contact for further assistance.
Best Regards, Vantec

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Item works perfectly

Cons: The egg I removed was due to the driver only being made available on the accompanying CD-ROM. I was unable to locate drivers anywhere on the website. For anyone needing to download drivers, see the "other thoughts" section below.

Other Thoughts: Having been in a situation where I needed an additional port for my CD/DVD drive replacement and my 4 sata ports in use by the HDD containing the host OS and the remaining 3 in use by a 3x1TB RAID array in near constant use... the CD containing the drivers was of little use. Most manufacturers make drivers available on their website. Unfortunately, Vantec does not appear to. I went ahead and made drivers for a variety of their products (drivers found on the CD), including this one, available for download

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SATA expansion card

Pros: Easy installation of card, works perfectly in my PC, fast and helpful email tech assistance

Cons: Initial setup could be easier. Less emphasis on RAID and more on non-RAID SATA would be good.

Other Thoughts: Had a few problems getting this to work correctly at first. I emailed the company and explained what was going on. They responded quickly via multiple emails and made several suggestions. I tried their suggestions and got the card running just as I had hoped it would. My PC has lots of connections but was short of SATA connections. The motherboard has 6 of them but with: 2 x SSD + 2 x DVD±RW + 2 x 500 GB WD HD and an external WD 750 GB backup HD, another SATA port or two was needed. This card provides that. Even though I do not need this card's RAID capacity at this time, it is good to know that if I ever do, it is there. In the meantime, the 4 additional SATA ports are very nice to have for additional expansion.
