The GVE200 DVI-D Video Extender allows you to extend the distance between the computer system unit and the display unit by up to 100 feet. It accomplishes this by means of a local transmitting unit and remote receiving unit connected by standard solid Category 5 twisted pair Ethernet cable (or Cat 5e and Cat 6). Each of the Extender units is bi-directional meaning it can be either the local transmitting unit or the remote receiving unit.

The GVE200 Video Extender System is ideal for factory and construction sites, or any installation where the display needs to reside in a harsh setting, but you want the system equipment kept in an environmentally friendly location. The Extender System is also useful for control and security purposes, where you can have the system unit in a secure area at the same time that you put the display in an area that is convenient for viewing.

I realize that you posted some time ago, but I think you missed the manufacturer's point. The MFR said that you need to use CAT6 with SOLID CORE WIRE to reach longer distances. The Belkin High Performance CAT6 cable you are using has STRANDED wire, not solid wire. Solid CAT6 has better high frequency performance. If you change cables per the MFR's suggestion, you might find that you can get the resolution you desire.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Like a charm

Pros: Works as advertised.

Cons: Bulky. Does not fix right on a video card with two DVI ports, even with a standard DVI connector next to it. Also did not fit well on my monitor. Had to force both to fit.

Other Thoughts: Bought a 25ft shielded CAT6 cable to go with this and the video is flawless. No artifacts at all.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks. But know what you're in for.

Pros: Works

Cons: Almost certainly doesn't work as advertised.

Other Thoughts: 20ft with Cat6 driving my 1280x800 projector, no problem. I did not WANT a bulky cable, or two cables; just one (for travel). I concur with what another reviewer said re. adapters (they will introduce reflections), and suspect you need to use really good cable (Cat6+), but also MAKE SURE conductors are 24AWG or better (lower number) else your signal loss ("attenuation") will be too great. This thing is what-it-is. If you don't expect too much from it, it works great. But 1080 at 100ft? Doubtful! If you need that, follow advice of other reviewer(s) and get an active device.

1 out of 5 eggsToo Bad It Doesnt Go 100ft

Pros: Nice Idea

Cons: Did not work as advertised. Max range was probably about 12ft.

Other Thoughts: It worked with (mostly perfect quality) on a 12ft cat5e cable as 1960x1080.
It worked with (minor artifacts) on a 50ft cat6 cable at 1440x900. Of course anything higher was useless.
It was useless at 75ft.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. Your problem has been noted and is currently under investigation.
We strive to ensure our customers are serviced with a properly working unit to exceed your satisfaction. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsResponse to IOGEAR's Response

Pros: -See my earlier review-

Cons: -See my earlier review-

Other Thoughts: This is a response to the Manufacturer Response:

I am using Belkin High Performance CAT6 cable. I have 2 such cables and tried both.

Though I appreciate your offer to replace, I have a cynical suspicion that if I call your tech support I will waste loads of my time and effort only to discover that the replacement unit is no different. So, I will live with what i have. I can live with the lower resolution for this particular need.

As for others reading the reviews. I definitely feel IOGEAR deserves a brownie point for caring enough to respond (hence the extra egg on this review).

3 out of 5 eggsIt works, but not as well as it claims

Pros: It will work at lower resolutions. I am sending a DVI-D signal 50 feet with it right now and the image looks good enough for what I need it for.

Cons: I wanted to send my full resolution (1920x1200) 50 feet and this product claims it can do that up to 100 feet. It wont. The signal loss is too great and the monitor stays black. If I lower the resolution a little I get a consistent signal, but only with annoying weird lines and lost pixels and I hated the way it looked. I have now settled on 1280x720. At this low of a resolution I have a nice picture with no artifacts. I can watch videos too. The color is just slightly washed out, but I don't know that it is this product that causes the washout. This monitor never looks perfect unless it is at its native resolution (1920x1200)- which this product DOES NOT transmit. You have been warned.

Other Thoughts: I have a good quality 600W power supply
ASUS HDMI 21.5" monitor
Video card is PNY GeForce 8400GS

Hope that helps :-)

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and sorry about your experience. From your description above, it shows that the unit does function with shorter cable, that shows the unit should not be defective. Therefore, the only thing that we need to verify with you is the CAT cable that you are using, to go for long distance; you would need to use a solid CAT6 cable in order to go extreme, for example, close to 100ft extension. Please verify if you are using such a CAT cable, if you are, then might really be bad. Also, the extension distance may vary depending on different combination of the media source, CAT cable and display. Since this unit is backed by IOGEAR’s 3 year warranty, please feel free to contact our tech support at 1(866)946-4327 and we would be glad to assist you. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.
